Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni showcased his enduring talent by scoring an unbeaten 26 runs off just 11 balls, leading his team to a five-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants in an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match held at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. The right-handed batsman dominated Avesh Khan and Shardul Thakur during the final overs, securing a memorable win in front of a packed stadium.

Dhoni entered the crease in the 15th over after Vijay Shankar was dismissed by Digvesh Singh Rathi. At that moment, CSK required 52 runs from 30 balls.

In an unexpected move, Rishabh Pant opted to hold back Ravi Bishnoi, allowing Dhoni to settle in. He quickly began attacking Avesh Khan.

Shivam Dube provided crucial support to Dhoni in the closing stages, and together they ensured CSK's second victory of the IPL 2025 season.

Dhoni was relentless, even against Shardul Thakur, as he aimed to avoid another defeat. With 24 runs needed in the last two overs, Shardul bowled the penultimate over. The first delivery saw Dube hit a boundary, followed by a no-ball that resulted in a six.

Dube then took a single, simplifying the chase to 12 runs from 10 balls. Dhoni received a fortunate break when Ravi Bishnoi dropped a catch, much to the delight of the crowd.

On the last ball of the 19th over, Dhoni struck a boundary, reducing the target to 5 runs from 6 balls. Dube took a single off the first ball of the final over, leaving CSK needing 4 runs from 5 balls. Dhoni then sprinted for a quick single, and Dube sealed the victory with a boundary, ensuring a five-wicket win for CSK with three balls remaining.

Ultimately, Dhoni finished with an unbeaten 26 runs off 11 balls, including 4 fours and 1 six, while Shivam Dube also ended not out with a commendable 43 runs.

Following CSK's victory, former West Indies cricketer Darren Ganga expressed his admiration for the team's performance.

Dhoni has a good game

The CSK captain had a good overall outing, as he was sublime with the gloves on. During LSG's innings, Dhoni became the first wicket-keeper in the IPL's history to have more than 200 dismissals in the tournament.

Earlier, CSK captain Dhoni won the toss and opted to bowl first. LSG posted 166/7 in the 20 overs owing to a 63-run knock by captain Rishabh Pant.

Despite the win against LSG, CSK remain at the bottom of the table with 4 points from 7 matches. The team will next take on Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Sunday, April 20.
