One of the most frequently encountered inquiries posed to veteran cricketers during interviews is the selection of their all-time XI, which may encompass players from various eras and nations. Recently, former India captain MS Dhoni faced a similar question on Raj Shamani's YouTube podcast. However, he promptly dismissed the request, opting instead to highlight four players from different generations whom he would enjoy watching play together.

Dhoni expressed his reluctance to choose an all-time XI but, when pressed, decided to focus solely on Indian players for his selection. The 43-year-old, currently participating in the IPL 2025 season, named four individuals and elaborated on his reasons for not compiling an all-time XI.

"I would prefer to select my Indian players," Dhoni stated. "Viru pa (Virender Sehwag) would open the innings, followed by Sachin and Dada (Sourav Ganguly). The idea is to envision them all at their peak. The beauty of watching them play is that you feel there is no one better. However, cricket is a game of fluctuations, making it challenging to make such selections. Nevertheless, we have all witnessed these players excel during our upbringing."

Dhoni also reminisced about Yuvraj Singh's memorable six sixes against England in the 2007 T20 World Cup, an event he experienced from the opposite end of the pitch.

"When Yuvi (Yuvraj) was hitting those six sixes, it felt like there was no one else to watch. So, why should I choose anyone? Why not simply appreciate everyone? Each of them has contributed to India's success, ensuring victories in numerous tournaments wherever we competed," he remarked.

The cricketing icon further clarified his stance on not compiling an all-time XI, in contrast to many other former players.

"Not all performances were documented in the past as they are today. There are numerous achievements I may not be familiar with, spanning generations I may not have witnessed. However, some talents we have seen, especially at their peak, are truly 'mind-blowing'," he concluded.

Dhoni is a three-time ICC trophy-winning captain.
