Chennai Super Kings triumphed over Mumbai Indians in their Clasico match on Sunday, thanks to the remarkable performances of Noor Ahmad and Rachin Ravindra. However, it was Vignesh Puthur who captured the spotlight. The 24-year-old from Kerala, who had never participated in a senior-level T20 match, created significant pressure for Chennai during the thrilling encounter at Chepauk by claiming three quick wickets in the middle overs. Nevertheless, the highlight of the match remained his viral moment with MS Dhoni after the game.

Following Rachin's winning six and the customary handshake between players, Dhoni approached the young cricketer and offered him a reassuring pat on the back. For Vignesh, this encounter was surreal, and his excitement was evident. The two exchanged a few words before Dhoni returned to the dugout.

The next morning, Vignesh's close friend Sreerag called him, eager to know what had transpired. "Eddaaa, pulli entha da paranchu? (What did MS Dhoni say) was my first question because even my parents were curious," he shared with The Indian Express.

Sreerag, who had previously taken Vignesh on his bike for training and to a restaurant known for its fish dishes, finally revealed the details. "Dhoni asked him about his age and encouraged Vignesh to continue doing what had led him to the IPL," he recounted.

'Parents were clearly taken aback'

Vignesh dismissed CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad after he reached his fifty, followed by the removal of Shivam Dube, who excels against spinners, and Deepak Hooda in a single bowling spell on Sunday night. Although these efforts did not lead to victory, his family was deeply moved by his performance.

"They were clearly surprised. At this time, it is essential to remain grounded, and that is what I conveyed to them. We have witnessed the impact of sudden fame and wealth on cricketers. We saw it with Vinod Kambli in the past, and now we are observing it with Prithvi Shaw. One match does not define his abilities," Sreerag stated.
