MS Dhoni and CSK Warned Ahead of LSG Clash: ‘Without Change, It’s Insanity’

As the IPL 2025 showdown against Rishabh Pant's Lucknow Super Giants approaches, MS Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings have a lot on their plate. Currently sitting at the bottom of the standings with only 2 points from six games, the five-time champions are in a tough spot after suffering five consecutive losses. Time is running out for CSK to turn things around and secure a playoff spot.

Despite the recent eight-wicket defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders, former Australia and CSK opener Matthew Hayden believes that MS Dhoni and the team are unlikely to make significant changes to their lineup.

Hayden points out that making frequent changes isn't part of CSK's identity, so fans shouldn't expect a lot of shake-ups. In their last match against KKR, CSK struggled, posting just 103/9 in their twenty overs, with the batters particularly faltering during the powerplay.

“I don’t think we’ll see many changes—it’s just not how CSK operates. Their strategy will probably be to trust themselves and stick to their process. They might not be the team that racks up 60 runs in the powerplay, but they need to find a unique approach,” Hayden shared on JioStar.

“Without making changes, it’s like insanity—repeating the same actions and hoping for different outcomes. Whether they realize this and take action is still up in the air, but it’s clear that something needs to change,” he added.

Can MS Dhoni turn things around?

Ruturaj Gaikwad is out of the tournament due to an elbow fracture. In his place, the five-time champions have signed 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre, who will join the team just before their match against the Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium.

CSK is really counting on their star player, MS Dhoni, and it remains to be seen if the former India captain can inspire the team and turn their luck around.

Before the game against Lucknow, CSK's head coach Stephen Fleming was straightforward, stating that Dhoni doesn’t have a magic solution and the whole team needs to elevate their performance to break free from this rough patch.

"Dhoni's impact will always be significant, but he’s not a magician; he can’t just wave a wand and fix everything. If he could, he would have done it by now," Fleming shared with reporters at a pre-match press conference.

"It’s about us putting in the hard work alongside MS to make a change. Throughout our cricketing journeys, we’ve faced tough situations that demand a lot of effort, and we need to ensure that our energy is directed in the right way," he added.
