MS Dhoni Spotted Limping After LSG Win; Fans Worried: ‘If He’s Ruled Out Too, Then…’

On Monday, Mahendra Singh Dhoni delivered a remarkable performance against the Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Stadium. He scored a rapid 26 runs off 11 balls, igniting excitement among the sea of yellow supporters at Lucknow's home ground, and made three dismissals with his wicketkeeping skills during the first innings. This outstanding display enabled the Chennai Super Kings to break their losing streak, securing a victory over Lucknow by five wickets.
Fans of Chennai celebrated their first win in five matches, having previously only triumphed against the Mumbai Indians in their season opener last month; however, unseen footage from the post-match events raised considerable concern among them.
A video that gained traction on social media after the game showed Dhoni limping as he walked behind teammate Ravindra Jadeja while exiting the venue, leading fans to speculate about the possibility of another significant injury sidelining him. Earlier, Chennai had already lost their regular captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, due to an injury that ruled him out for the remainder of the season, prompting the selection of 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre as his replacement.
Dhoni's struggle with knee injury
Significantly, the 43-year-old athlete underwent knee surgery two years prior, immediately following the conclusion of IPL 2023, and dedicated the remainder of that year to recovery before making his return to the IPL last year. His knee issues persisted last year, highlighted by viral footage of him adjusting a kneecap before stepping up to bat on social media.
Earlier this season, Chennai's head coach Stephen Fleming also commented on this matter, clarifying that it was the reason for Dhoni's lower batting position in the order.
'It's a matter of timing - MS assesses it,' Fleming stated following Chennai's defeat against Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati. 'His knees are not as resilient as they once were. He is moving adequately, but there remains an aspect of wear and tear. He cannot bat for 10 overs at full capacity, so he will evaluate on the day what he can contribute. If the match is closely contested, he will come in a bit earlier, and he supports other players when opportunities arise. It is about finding that balance. I mentioned last year that he is too valuable, both in terms of leadership and performance, to be placed in after nine or ten overs - he has never done that. From around the 13th or 14th over, he is considering his entry based on who is currently batting.'
