Lord's Stadium to Suffer ₹45 Crore Revenue Blow Due to India's Absence in WTC Final

Lord's Cricket Ground is expected to bring in about 4 million pounds, which is just over INR 45 crore, less than what was initially anticipated for the 2025 World Test Championship (WTC) Final, mainly because India didn't qualify. The defending champions, Australia, will be going up against South Africa in this big Test match starting June 11.
According to a report from The Times, Lord's had planned to charge premium prices for the WTC Final tickets, banking on India making it to the match again. At the beginning of the 2023/24 Test season, Rohit Sharma's team was a strong contender for the final, having five home matches against Bangladesh and New Zealand before heading to Australia for a five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.
They kicked off that stretch at the top of the WTC standings and needed to win five out of ten Tests to secure their spot in the final. Given India's historical dominance at home against Bangladesh and New Zealand, it seemed almost certain they would reach the WTC Final for the third time in a row.
However, India faced a shocking 3-0 defeat to New Zealand, which turned heads globally. This was followed by a 3-1 loss in Australia, sealing their fate and marking the first time they wouldn't qualify for the final in the WTC's short history.
The Times also mentioned that the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) decided to reduce ticket prices once it became clear India wouldn't be in the mix this year, prioritizing a packed stadium over a half-empty one with higher ticket costs. Additionally, MCC members who purchased tickets before the price cut have been refunded the difference.
