Inter Miami is currently on their pre-season tour across North and South America, and they just crushed Honduran team CD Olimpia with a 5-0 victory. Lionel Messi was in top form, scoring a goal and providing an assist. He kicked things off by netting the first goal in the first half, thanks to a brilliant pass from Luis Suarez. The two shared a sweet moment celebrating together.
Young Argentine midfielder Federico Redondo then added to the score, making it 2-0 just before halftime, and he quickly followed up with a third goal only a minute and a half later. Messi showcased his skills by weaving past two defenders and the goalie, then setting up Noah Allen for a goal that brought the score to 3-0 before the break.
In the second half, Suarez pulled off a cheeky nutmeg on the goalkeeper to extend the lead to 4-0, and Ryan Sailor capped off the scoring for Inter Miami with a goal 25 minutes later.
Everyone's going wild for selfies and giving a big round of applause
The Barcelona icon got a huge standing ovation when he was subbed off during the game, and after the final whistle, it turned into a wild scene as Olimpia players crowded around him for selfies. Messi has been a key player for the team led by David Beckham since he joined, but they couldn't clinch the league title last season. They were at the top of the table during the regular season but got knocked out in the first round of the playoffs.
Inter Miami has brought in Javier Mascherano as their new head coach, and he’s a former teammate of Messi, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, and Suarez. When he got the job, he mentioned, “I’m not one to force things or prove anything unnecessary. My bond with Leo, Luis, Jordi, and Busi is important, but outside the club, that relationship stays the same—I prefer to keep things separate.”
On the other hand, Suarez commented, “It feels a bit odd having him as our coach now, but we respect his position. We’ve had some chats—it’s all about recognizing that he’s the one making the calls now.”
“He’s not just a former teammate anymore; he’s in charge, and we need to honor that,” he added.
