Lucknow Super Giants emerged as the leading spenders in the IPL auction, making a significant investment of INR 27 crore to acquire Rishabh Pant, aiming to establish a new face for the franchise. However, they enter the tournament facing considerable challenges due to multiple injuries within their fast-bowling lineup. This situation raises concerns as they commence their campaign against Pant’s former team, the Delhi Capitals, despite having a robust batting lineup.

There are uncertainties regarding LSG's batting order. While their middle order appears to be one of the most formidable in the tournament, it may require time to determine the most effective strategy.

Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh are designated as the specialist openers for LSG, but the absence of a domestic opening option could pose difficulties due to their injury woes. Rishabh Pant, the captain, is expected to bat at number three, aiming to replicate his impressive performances from the previous IPL season while representing a new team for the first time.

Nicholas Pooran is anticipated to bat at number four, hoping not to shoulder the entire batting responsibility alone, with the powerful David Miller slated to follow him. The batting lineup may be completed at number six by Abdul Samad, serving as the specialist finisher, while Ayush Badoni is expected to act as a flexible pinch-hitting option.

The bowling department is where LSG's aggressive strategy at the top has faltered, as four frontline seamers are currently sidelined with long-term injuries. Mohsin Khan has been ruled out due to an ACL tear and has been replaced by Shardul Thakur, who may not be fit to start the tournament. Additionally, Avesh Khan, Akash Deep, and Mayank Yadav are also unavailable due to injuries. This situation is concerning for LSG, who were relying heavily on this quartet for their pace attack.

One of their overseas openers might have to sit out so that West Indian Shamar Joseph can come in and add some pace. Along with him, the untested Akash Singh is expected to figure as the pacer. The spin looks relatively stronger, with Ravi Bishnoi their key bowler, joined by Shahbaz Ahmed.
