Kuldeep Yadav Aims for Champions Trophy Selection, Says He's Been Bowling Consistently
3 months ago | 5 Views
India's leg-spinner Kuldeep Yadav has shared an encouraging update regarding his recovery, revealing that he has resumed bowling. He posted a video on Instagram showcasing his practice sessions in the nets alongside several coaches.
In an interview with The Telegraph, the left-arm spinner from Kanpur stated that he is ready to return to competitive play after a lengthy absence caused by a groin injury that necessitated surgical intervention.
"My recovery has progressed well, and I have been bowling for a while now. I feel optimistic about my progress," Kuldeep remarked. He last played for India during the first Test against New Zealand in October but was sidelined for the remainder of that series and the entire Border-Gavaskar Trophy due to his injury.
Kuldeep underwent surgery performed by a specialist in Germany, and his recovery appears to have gone well, positioning him as a potential candidate for the squad for the ICC Champions Trophy set to commence next month.
"His selection will ultimately depend on his fitness, but he will certainly be a topic of discussion in the selection meeting. After all, he is an exceptional bowler across all formats," a BCCI source informed The Telegraph regarding Kuldeep's prospects for inclusion in the team.
‘He should get the NCA’s clearance too…'
Kuldeep has played a crucial role in India's recent successes in white-ball cricket, serving as the primary spinner during the team's journey to the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup. He further distinguished himself by contributing significantly to India's victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup, thereby ending the ICC trophy drought. Indian supporters are optimistic that his expertise will be invaluable once more in the UAE, where the playing conditions may favour his style of bowling.
His coach, Kapil Panday, who is assisting in his rehabilitation and return to form, shared insights into the ongoing training process.
“He has resumed bowling in the past ten days. He will be arriving in Kanpur after January 25 or 26, at which point we will focus on refining his line and length, spin, and other technical aspects. By that time, we anticipate he will also receive clearance from the NCA. We are quite optimistic about his selection for the Champions Trophy,” Panday stated.
Kuldeep may be considered for the upcoming three-match ODI series against England, which will serve as a preparatory phase for the Champions Trophy. The coaching staff and management are expected to assess his match fitness during this series as well.
