Kohli's Return and Iyer's Form: India's Expected Lineup for 2nd ODI vs England

India is set to pursue a series-clinching victory against England in the third ODI scheduled for Sunday in Cuttack. The home team currently leads the series following a four-wicket triumph in the first ODI. In that match, Virat Kohli withdrew at the last moment due to a knee injury, leading to the inclusion of ODI debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal. Additionally, Harshit Rana also made his debut for India in the ODI format.
In pursuit of 249 runs, India successfully reached 251/6 in just 38.4 overs, largely thanks to Shubman Gill's impressive innings of 87 runs off 96 balls, which included four boundaries. Shreyas Iyer contributed significantly with a score of 59, while Axar Patel added 52 runs to the total.
India's bowlers, particularly Ravindra Jadeja and Rana, who both claimed three wickets, effectively limited England to 248 runs in 47.4 overs. For the visitors, Jos Buttler and Jacob Bethell each scored half-centuries, with 52 and 51 runs, respectively. In the upcoming second ODI, it is anticipated that Kohli will return to the lineup, replacing Jaiswal, who managed only 15 runs off 22 balls in the first match. Shubman Gill is expected to open the innings alongside captain Rohit Sharma, who had a disappointing outing with just two runs off seven balls in the previous encounter.
Kohli is set to occupy the number three position as per usual, with the revitalized Iyer following him. Iyer demonstrated exceptional form in the last match; however, he has not consistently been India's first-choice player, despite playing a significant role in the recent ODI World Cup held domestically. He is anticipated to retain his place in the playing eleven. KL Rahul will enter the lineup at number five and will also take on the wicketkeeping responsibilities.
Hardik Pandya will be positioned at number six, with Axar and Jadeja following. This trio will serve as the designated all-rounders, with Pandya providing support to the pace bowlers. Concurrently, Axar and Jadeja will be tasked with spin bowling duties. The lower order will comprise Rana, Kuldeep Yadav, and Mohammed Shami.
India’s playing XI vs England, 2nd ODI:
Batters: Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma (c), Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer
Wicketkeeper: KL Rahul
All-rounders: Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja
