Team India showcased exceptional performance during the initial session of Day 2 in the Sydney Test. The fast bowlers dominated the field, securing four wickets and exerting significant pressure on Australia, thereby reinvigorating the visitors' position after being dismissed for 185 runs. Mohammed Siraj took two wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna each contributed with one wicket, leaving Australia at 101/5 at the lunch interval.
The Indian bowlers were aggressive from the outset, with captain Bumrah resuming his contest against the young Sam Konstas on Day 2, while Virat Kohli also played a pivotal role.
Bumrah quickly dismissed Marnus Labuschagne, intensifying the pressure on the Australian side, although Konstas continued to seek quick runs. Kohli devised a strategy with Bumrah aimed at unsettling the young batsman.
The former Indian captain engaged in a discussion with Bumrah prior to an over, suggesting that he bowl closer to Konstas's body to increase the likelihood of a wicket.
"Yes Bumrah, there is your man now," Kohli jested as he approached Bumrah.
"Bowl him close to his body; he may attempt aggressive shots. There is a chance to dismiss him. We have one over, seize this opportunity," Kohli advised Bumrah.
The Indian captain approached the situation with utmost seriousness and effectively targeted Konstas. He attempted to pull the first delivery but completely missed, resulting in a blow to his body. In an effort to relieve some pressure, the Australian batsman stepped out, yet Bumrah mirrored his movement and once again directed the ball towards his body, leading to a mistimed shot.
Following this, Bumrah did not hold back and jested that Konstas was batting as if he were a number 10 batsman.
Subsequently, the Australian opener was dismissed by Mohammed Siraj for a score of 23 after edging the ball to Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Bumrah became energized following a contentious interaction with Konstas on the first day
On Day 1, Konstas engaged in a brief on-field confrontation with the Indian captain, during which Bumrah's expression unmistakably conveyed his displeasure regarding Konstas's remarks while he was positioned at the non-striker's end.
This incident heightened the tension, as Bumrah appeared visibly agitated. Following this intense exchange, the Indian captain responded effectively to the young Australian on the very next delivery. He positioned Usman Khawaja in a manner that induced a thick outside edge, which was skillfully caught by KL Rahul at the second slip.
