After suffering a defeat against the Punjab Kings at home on Friday, Virat Kohli was resolute in his aim to spearhead the Royal Challengers Bengaluru's efforts to rectify the loss during the second leg of the match in Chandigarh on Sunday. He successfully secured a victory for the visitors with an unbeaten score of 73, as RCB chased down a target of 158 with seven balls remaining. This marked their fourth consecutive win away from home.
During the match, Kohli experienced a tense moment on the pitch with Bengaluru captain Rajat Patidar. This incident occurred on the fourth ball of the 16th over when Kohli skillfully pulled a delivery from Arshdeep Singh through the leg side and immediately called for a two. After completing the first run, Patidar hesitated and opted against a second run, but Kohli, focused on the fielder, dashed back towards the striker's end, inadvertently leaving Patidar in a precarious position. Fortunately, the throw went astray, allowing Patidar to return safely to the crease, despite Shreyas Iyer's attempt to back up the throw.
Kohli expressed his frustration towards Patidar following the near mix-up, visibly upset and shouting at him. Patidar, while also irritated, responded with a thumbs-up, and the situation quickly diffused.
As the replay aired, former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar, who was providing commentary in Hindi, remarked, "Virat is upset because Patidar doesn't run that fast between the wickets."
Aakash Chopra, another commentator and former Indian cricketer, added, “We witnessed Nehal Wadhera get out in a similar fashion. Nehal was running, but Josh Inglis showed no interest. There should have been a run-out here. Kohli was intent on the second run and kept running without checking on Patidar. Ultimately, Patidar ran only because Kohli was already in motion.”
