India, Jan. 30 -- Despite it being a working Thursday morning, fans created an exhilarating atmosphere for Virat Kohli's return to the Ranji Trophy. The former captain of India, representing Delhi in the tournament after a 12-year hiatus, attracted thousands of supporters to the Arun Jaitley Stadium to witness his performance against Railways.

As of Wednesday, the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) had intended to open only three gates—16, 17, and 7—for entry. However, the unexpectedly large turnout necessitated the opening of gate 18 to accommodate the influx of spectators.

By the morning of Day 1, the stadium had already seen over 15,000 attendees filling the Gautam Gambhir and Bishan Singh Bedi stands.

"There was congestion at the entry point as only one gate was operational initially. Subsequently, additional gates were opened," stated a report from Delhi Police. "There have been no reports of injuries. The situation remains stable."

Despite these precautions, a pitch invader managed to breach security and approach Kohli at the slips during the first session, following the hosts' decision to bowl. In response, Delhi Police intensified security measures, including the deployment of special forces.
