Defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders are gearing up to commence the new IPL season with a highly anticipated opening match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. KKR secured their third IPL title last year and has retained the majority of their previous squad despite the mega-auction, as they aim for a fourth championship.

After 18 years in the IPL, one individual has become more closely associated with KKR than anyone else. Shah Rukh Khan, the team's part-owner, has represented the franchise as prominently as any player. A regular at Eden Gardens, the Bollywood icon has consistently demonstrated his unwavering support for the team.

In anticipation of the 2025 season, a video released on KKR’s social media platforms features SRK addressing the players and staff in the dressing room, offering them encouragement and support as they prepare for this important IPL campaign.

Shah Rukh commenced his remarks by expressing gratitude to KKR coach Chandrakant Pandit, a renowned figure in Indian domestic coaching who played a pivotal role in guiding the team to victory last year. “Wishing you good health and happiness. Thank you, Chandu sir, for your care and support,” he stated.

‘Thank you Ajinkya for joining us…’

He then acknowledged Ajinkya Rahane, saying, “Thank you, Ajinkya, for joining us…” and extended a warm welcome to the new team members. KKR has seen a significant transformation, with eight or nine players from the previous season being replaced, resulting in a refreshed squad and enhanced depth.

A notable shift for KKR is the change in captaincy, as they have parted ways with Shreyas Iyer and appointed the seasoned Ajinkya Rahane as his successor. Shah Rukh expressed his confidence in the Indian batsman, stating, “Thank you, Ajinkya, for stepping in as our captain. May you find a welcoming environment here and perform well alongside the team.”

Rahane is set to lead KKR in his inaugural match against RCB at the vibrant Eden Gardens, which is expected to be filled with enthusiastic fans. Shah Rukh Khan is also anticipated to be present among a star-studded audience as the new season kicks off.
