Kieron Pollard Greets Bumrah with ‘Mufasa’ Tribute on MI Return
9 days ago | 5 Views
On Sunday, the Mumbai Indians extended a warm welcome as Jasprit Bumrah made his highly anticipated return, joining the team in preparation for their upcoming match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. After being sidelined for several months due to a back injury, Bumrah trained with the Mumbai Indians for the first time, receiving an emotional reception. Kieron Pollard, the batting coach for MI, ensured that this moment was unforgettable.
As Bumrah entered the Wankhede Stadium following nearly two months of rigorous rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, Pollard joyfully lifted him off the ground, exclaiming, “Welcome Mufasa!”—a nod to the beloved animated film, ‘The Lion King,’ where Mufasa is depicted as the king of the jungle. The atmosphere in the MI camp was filled with applause and laughter.

MI has felt the significant impact of Bumrah's absence, suffering defeats in three of their first four matches this season. However, this inconsistent performance may come to an end on Monday as Mumbai faces Rajat Patidar's RCB in a vital home match. MI's head coach, Mahela Jayawardene, has confirmed the eagerly anticipated news.
“Yes, he is available. He is training today, so he should be ready for tomorrow,” Jayawardene stated during the pre-match press conference.
Bumrah sustained a back injury during the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Sydney last January, which led to his exclusion from the limited-overs series against England and the Champions Trophy. The BCCI medical team has meticulously overseen his recovery process, and his return is expected to significantly enhance MI’s bowling strength.
Positive news on Rohit, too
The five-time champions may receive a boost, as Jayawardene provided an encouraging update regarding Rohit Sharma, who was sidelined in the previous match due to a knee injury.
“Ro (Rohit) is looking good. He is set to bat today. It was merely an unfortunate impact on his leg while he was batting, which caused some discomfort. We traveled yesterday, but he will practice today, and we will evaluate his condition afterward,” the coach stated.
When inquired about any other injury issues within the team, Jayawardene responded, “Not that I am aware of.”
With Bumrah returning and Rohit expected to be fit, the Mumbai Indians are determined to get their campaign back on track.
