Kane Williamson doesn’t seem to be fazed by long breaks when it comes to ODI cricket. The former New Zealand captain showcased his skills on Monday in Lahore, leading his team to a win against South Africa with a stunning 133 not out off 113 balls, which included 13 fours and two sixes.

Despite not playing in this format for about a year and a half, and having limited appearances due to injuries, Williamson has maintained impressive consistency. Earlier in the ongoing tri-series in Lahore, which is a lead-up to the 2025 Champions Trophy, he scored 58 against Pakistan. On Monday, he also became the second fastest player to hit 7000 ODI runs.

He achieved this milestone in 159 innings, surpassing Virat Kohli, who reached it in 161 innings. The record for the fastest is held by South Africa's Hashim Amla, who did it in just 150 innings, while AB de Villiers, another South African legend, completed it in 166 innings.

New Zealand breezes past the 305-run target

Matthew Breetzke, making his debut, hit a fantastic 150 off 148 balls, helping South Africa post a solid 304/6 while batting first in Lahore. New Zealand started strong, racking up 50 runs in the first 10 overs, but lost opener Will Young right at the end of that stretch. Things picked up when Kane Williamson came in, as he and Devon Conway formed a massive 187-run partnership for the second wicket in just 155 balls. Conway fell just short of a century, scoring 97 off 107 balls, while Williamson reached his hundred in a blistering 72 balls.

After that, New Zealand faced a bit of a hiccup, with Daryl Mitchell and Tom Latham both getting out to Senuran Muthuswamy on consecutive deliveries in the 39th over. However, Williamson guided his team to victory alongside Glenn Phillips.
