Vinod Kambli appears to be showing signs of improvement despite ongoing reports indicating that his condition remains critical. The former Indian cricketer is currently receiving treatment at Akruti Hospital in Thane, where he is recovering from blood clots identified in his brain. He has issued a brief statement expressing his gratitude to the medical staff for their unwavering support. At the age of 52, Kambli has been in the spotlight regarding his health issues over the past month, initially drawing attention when he had difficulty dismounting his bicycle two months ago, and more recently during the unveiling of the Ramakant Achrekar memorial in Mumbai.

In a recent interview, Kambli disclosed that he was admitted to three different hospitals last month due to a severe urinary infection. His health took a concerning turn on Saturday night when he experienced a sudden decline. Now on the path to recovery, Kambli shared a poignant moment from his hospital stay, recalling how he held the doctor's hand, reminiscent of his bond with Sachin Tendulkar, and conveyed his deep appreciation for their efforts in saving his life.

"I owe my life to the doctors here. I will follow whatever instructions the doctor gives me. People will witness the inspiration I will provide," Kambli stated.

Vinod Kambli's condition is improving

Kambli's ability to express himself with a smile is a positive indication of his recovery. He appeared significantly improved compared to earlier assessments and took the time to greet doctors, hospital personnel, and fans, expressing his gratitude for their support. After being brought to the hospital by a devoted fan, Kambli's care has been overseen by the hospital's head, S Singh, who has promised him lifelong complimentary treatment.

Dr. Vivek Dwivedi, who is overseeing Kambli's treatment, reported to HT, "Upon his admission on Saturday, he was experiencing severe cramps, fever, and dizziness. He was unable to sit or walk and was quite drowsy at that time."

"Following a thorough examination, we discovered that he was suffering from a urinary tract infection coupled with an electrolyte imbalance. His sodium and potassium levels were both slightly low, which contributed to the cramps. Additionally, his blood pressure was also on the lower side. We initiated a course of antibiotics."

Kambli's financial situation has been precarious for an extended period, relying solely on a monthly pension of ₹30,000 from the BCCI. The 1983 World Cup-winning team, including legends like Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar, has extended their support, contingent upon Kambli's agreement to enter rehabilitation, a condition he is willing to accept. Should this initiative proceed, it would mark Kambli's fifteenth rehabilitation attempt, as confirmed by his friend and former First-Class umpire, Marcus Couto, who noted that Kambli has previously undergone 14 rehab programs.

Once regarded as a promising talent, Kambli's decline has been extensively chronicled. He made his debut for India in 1991, but it was not until 1994 that he truly made an impact, achieving consecutive double centuries in Test matches. He scored 224 against England in Mumbai and followed it with an impressive 227 against Zimbabwe in Delhi. However, Kambli's penchant for a lavish lifestyle hindered his path to success. His last Test appearance was in 1995, despite maintaining an impressive average of 54 in the format. Kambli continued to participate in ODIs until 2000, making nine comebacks, but ultimately, his career concluded abruptly at the age of 28.

Kambli remained active in domestic cricket for Mumbai until he announced his retirement in 2009. He ventured into acting and participated in several reality shows, though neither endeavor proved to be enduring. In the same year, he unintentionally strained his relationship with Sachin Tendulkar by suggesting that Tendulkar could have provided him with more support to avert his indiscipline and subsequent decline. Nevertheless, Tendulkar later came to Kambli's aid by covering all hospital expenses when Kambli underwent surgery following two heart attacks in 2013.
