Right-handed batsman KL Rahul rose to the occasion when it was most crucial. Defying the odds, the 32-year-old delivered an impressive unbeaten innings of 93 runs, leading the Delhi Capitals to a six-wicket victory over the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium during an IPL 2025 match on Thursday. At one point, Delhi Capitals found themselves in a precarious position at 58/4 while pursuing a target of 164 runs. However, Rahul and Tristan Stubbs combined to form an unbroken partnership of 111 runs for the fifth wicket, successfully guiding their team to victory.

Rahul, who received the Player of the Match award for his 93 runs off 53 balls, acknowledged his familiarity with the pitch conditions in Bengaluru, which helped him navigate his innings effectively and secure the win with 13 balls remaining.

Following the triumph, KL Rahul was seen celebrating by thumping his chest and placing his bat on the ground, declaring, "This is my yard." His innings featured seven fours and six sixes.

In the post-match presentation with Deep Dasgupta, Rahul expressed, "This is my ground, this is my home. I know it better than anyone else. I enjoyed playing here."

A highlight of KL Rahul's performance was his aggressive approach against RCB's top bowler during a challenging phase for the Delhi Capitals. In the 15th over, he targeted Josh Hazlewood, scoring 22 runs off his bowling.

‘Got lucky with the dropped catch’

Earlier,  At a pivotal moment in the match, RCB captain Rajat Patidar failed to catch KL Rahul, a misstep that became the defining moment of the game.

Following this incident, Rahul, alongside Stubbs (38*), propelled the Delhi Capitals to their fourth consecutive boundary in IPL 2025.

“It was a somewhat challenging pitch. What aided me was spending 20 overs behind the stumps, observing how the ball behaved. From my wicketkeeping experience, I noticed that the ball settled into the pitch, but it remained consistent throughout; it wasn't unpredictable, maintaining a steady pace,” remarked KL Rahul.

“I was aware of my preferred shots. My goal was to start strong, be aggressive at the outset, and then evaluate the situation. If I aimed for a significant six, I knew which areas to target. Wicketkeeping provided me insights into how other batsmen performed and where they got out. I was fortunate with the dropped catch,” he continued.

KL Rahul has been in exceptional form during IPL 2025, amassing 185 runs across three matches, placing him eighth in the Orange Cap standings.
