KL Rahul, the prominent batter for Team India, will not participate in the knock-out stages of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, as reported by PTI. Having played all five Tests in the recent Border-Gavaskar series against Australia, Rahul has opted to take a break from competitive cricket.
While it is confirmed that Rahul will miss the Vijay Hazare quarterfinals, a decision regarding his participation in the second phase of the Ranji Trophy, commencing on January 23, will be announced at a later time. This hiatus follows a demanding Test series, providing Rahul with an opportunity to rest and recover in preparation for a busy schedule ahead.
In the meantime, Karnataka will welcome back two significant players for their Vijay Hazare Trophy quarterfinal match against Baroda on Saturday. Left-handed opener Devdutt Padikkal and fast bowler Prasidh Krishna, both of whom were included in the Test squad for Australia, will join the state team in Vadodara.
Padikkal, who participated in the first Test in Perth, aims to leverage his recent experiences in Australia, while Prasidh Krishna, who played in the fifth and final Test, will enhance Karnataka’s pace bowling unit. Both players demonstrated outstanding form prior to the Australia series, leaving a notable impact in the domestic circuit.
Karnataka without Vyshak
Karnataka will be without the services of fast bowler V. Vyshak for the knockout stages due to an injury. Vyshak has been a dependable member of Karnataka’s bowling lineup this season, and his absence will be significant during the critical match against Baroda.
Nevertheless, Karnataka continues to be a strong contender, enhanced by the return of Padikkal and Prasidh, and they are eager to make a mark in the pivotal knockout rounds of the tournament.
In light of Rahul's absence and Vyshak’s injury, Karnataka will depend on their seasoned players, such as Padikkal and Prasidh, to provide a robust performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, should they advance to the quarterfinals.
