Delhi Capitals batsman KL Rahul shared his renewed enjoyment of white-ball cricket, attributing this change to the influence of Team India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar. In previous IPL seasons, Rahul faced scrutiny regarding his strike rate, which contributed to his exclusion from India's T20I squad following the 2022 T20 World Cup. To secure his position in the ODI team, the 32-year-old has embraced the role of a versatile team player, adapting to various positions—whether as an opener, middle-order batsman, or wicketkeeper across different formats.

Recently, however, his performance has taken a positive turn. He showcased an aggressive batting style during the Champions Trophy, playing a crucial role in India's semifinal and final victories.

Rahul commenced the new IPL season on a high note with his new team, Delhi Capitals. He scored 77 runs off 51 balls on the challenging Chepauk pitch, leading Delhi to their third consecutive win of the season.

Following the match, Capitals mentor Kevin Pietersen engaged in a conversation with Rahul on camera, where the former England captain praised the opening batsman for his outstanding performance to date.

“Your intent in Vizag, you struck at 300 and I was pleased with you. Today, striking at 150 on a different wicket…you must be thrilled that you’re able to adapt your style to the modern game," Pietersen remarked in a video shared by ICC.

Rahul expressed his gratitude towards India's assistant coach, Abhishek Nayar, for his invaluable support during training, which has rekindled his enjoyment of white-ball cricket.

"I have dedicated significant effort to improving my white-ball skills over the past year. I want to extend a big thank you to Abhishek Nayar. Since he joined the Indian team, I have collaborated extensively with him. We have spent countless hours discussing my white-ball performance and exploring ways to enhance it. Our extensive training sessions in Bombay have played a crucial role, and I believe I have rediscovered the joy of playing white-ball cricket," he remarked.

“I wanted to take the game deep…”: KL Rahul

Rahul, currently not part of India's T20 team, acknowledged that he had been fixated on the mindset of prolonging the game. However, he has since adjusted his strategy.

“At some point, I lost the enjoyment of hitting boundaries and sixes. I was overly focused on taking the game deep, which became ingrained in my thinking. Now, I understand that I need to return to my original approach,” Rahul stated.
