KL Rahul Gears Up for DC Debut as SRH Eyes Bowling Redemption

For the second consecutive Sunday, the Sunrisers Hyderabad will participate in the afternoon match of the doubleheader, aiming for a decisive victory. This time, they travel to Visakhapatnam, previously the home ground of the Delhi Capitals, a city that remains within their area of influence.

After a disappointing defeat to LSG, SRH is set to face a Delhi team that recently triumphed over LSG in the most exciting match of the tournament to date. Ashutosh Sharma emerged as the standout performer, but the significant news for DC is the return of KL Rahul. Having missed the opening match due to paternity leave, he is back with the team and is expected to start against SRH.

One major issue for Delhi in their match against LSG was the rapid collapse of their top order, losing three wickets within the first ten balls. KL Rahul will take the number four position, bringing stability and experience, along with the potential to change the game if given the right conditions. This represents a new role for Rahul, and it will be intriguing to observe how he adapts, particularly in a match where scoring runs will be crucial for DC.

For SRH, the season began as anticipated, showcasing a powerful batting performance against RR. However, their display against LSG was less impressive, as they struggled to build momentum, losing wickets frequently and finishing with only 190 runs on what was clearly a 220+ pitch. In this upcoming match, Travis Head and Abhishek Head will face a familiar challenge from last year’s playoffs: Mitchell Starc, who has previously taken five wickets in two matches against this team while playing for KKR, and who recently claimed three wickets against LSG.

Crucial to Delhi's aspirations of limiting the effectiveness of the opposing batting lineup will be Kuldeep Yadav, who has been in outstanding form, particularly in match-ups against the top order comprising Head, Abhishek, and Kishan. It would not be surprising to see him brought into the game early by captain Axar Patel, who is also his spin partner.

Additionally, Delhi Capitals may need to make further adjustments depending on Mukesh Kumar's fitness. The pacer sustained an ankle injury during a challenging fielding incident against LSG, which forced him to leave the field and prevented him from completing his bowling spell. Although DC has had nearly a week to recuperate, they may opt for caution. The absence of T Natarajan was unexpected and remains unexplained, but he could be included; otherwise, the team might consider the young talent Darshan Nalkande.

In the Sunrisers Hyderabad camp, there may be a push to bolster their middle order and pace attack by introducing Wiaan Mulder, who could replace Abhinav Manohar following a subdued performance, while Rahul Chahar might take the place of the costly Adam Zampa. However, the key for SRH lies in execution: they possess a strong squad in both batting and bowling, and they simply need to perform cohesively.

Projected XI for DC: Jake Fraser-McGurk, Faf du Plessis, Abhishek Porel (wk), KL Rahul, Axar Patel (c), Tristan Stubbs, Ashutosh Sharma, Vipraj Nigam, Mitchell Starc, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohit Sharma.

Projected XI for SRH: Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, Ishan Kishan, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Heinrich Klaasen (wk), Aniket Verma, Abhinav Manohar/Wiaan Mulder, Pat Cummins, Harshal Patel, Mohammed Shami, Simarjeet Singh.
