KL Rahul Faces Tough Decisions: Ex-Pakistani Cricketer's Strong Prediction on India's CT Wicketkeeper Choice

Team India has not yet revealed its squad for the forthcoming Champions Trophy, set to commence on February 18. The selection committee is diligently assessing Jasprit Bumrah's fitness before finalizing the roster for this significant ICC event. Bumrah suffered a back injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and is now under pressure to regain fitness for the 50-over format. In the meantime, numerous former cricketers have begun to speculate on the team's composition.
Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali was invited to share his thoughts on India's wicketkeeper selection for the prestigious tournament. He identified Rishabh Pant as his primary choice, expressing that it would be challenging for KL Rahul to secure a position as a superior wicketkeeper.
"Rishabh Pant should be the first choice. Sanju Samson will be the second choice. I think it will be difficult for KL Rahul," Basit stated during an ICC event.
Sanju Samson is another contender who is likely to be considered by the selection committee. He has recently surpassed Pant in the T20I hierarchy due to his impressive batting performances. Following Rohit Sharma's retirement from T20Is, Sanju seized the opportunity, showcasing his talent with a century against Bangladesh on home soil. He further distinguished himself by becoming the first player to score three centuries in T20Is within a single calendar year.
Additionally, Basit shared his perspective on the fittest player within the Indian squad, placing Virat Kohli above the younger athletes.
"Virat Kohli exhibits exceptional fitness. While Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill are present, they do not match his calibre. Other players lack the on-field fitness that Virat possesses, such as running across the ground and communicating effectively from various positions," he remarked.
‘Jasprit Bumrah is the best of all’
Basit asserted that currently, no player in the Indian team can be compared to Jasprit Bumrah, stating that only Mohammed Shami has the potential to reach his level, provided he is in good health.
"Jasprit Bumrah stands out as the finest among them all. When considering players like Shami, Arshdeep, and Siraj, none can match his prowess. The only one who might come close is Shami, but that is contingent upon his fitness," he concluded.
