KL Rahul, the prominent Indian cricketer, is poised to make his return in the Delhi Capitals' second match of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The team will face off against Sunrisers Hyderabad at their designated home venue, the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.

Rahul was unable to participate in Delhi's opening match against his former team, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), due to a paternity leave he took following the birth of his daughter with his wife, Athiya Shetty, on Monday. As reported by the Times of India, Rahul, who was acquired by the franchise for INR 14 crore during the mega auction last November, is expected to play in the upcoming game against SRH.

He has demonstrated outstanding performance in white-ball cricket, contributing two crucial innings for India that helped secure the Champions Trophy earlier this month in Dubai. However, he has been absent from T20 matches since he was not selected for the World Cup squad last year, expressing his desire to reclaim his position in the T20I team as India prepares for the ICC T20 tournament next year.

Even while on leave, Rahul continued to train in Mumbai under the guidance of Abhishek Nayar, India's assistant coach, as noted in the report. He has now rejoined the Delhi Capitals squad in Visakhapatnam for the match against SRH scheduled for March 30.

What happened in Delhi's first game?

Delhi commenced their IPL 2025 season with an impressive victory, narrowly overcoming Lucknow by one wicket in a thrilling match held in Vizag on Monday. Under the leadership of Rishabh Pant, the team set a challenging target of 210 runs. Despite facing a precarious situation at 65 for five, Ashutosh Sharma, making his debut for the franchise as an impact substitute, delivered an extraordinary performance. He scored an unbeaten 66 runs off 31 balls, including five fours and five sixes, leading Delhi to a dramatic last-wicket triumph with only three balls remaining.
