KL Rahul's exceptional judgment, composed demeanor, and outstanding decision-making skills have frequently assisted his captains in making DRS calls. However, on Wednesday (April 16), during the IPL 2025 match between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, his insights inadvertently benefited the opposing team. Rajasthan Royals batsman Dhruv Jurel observed Rahul gesturing towards his forearm and shaking his head, indicating to his teammate and bowler Kuldeep Yadav that the decision should be not out. Taking this cue, Jurel promptly opted for the DRS. The replays revealed that the ball had struck his thigh and would have missed the stumps by a considerable margin, as it was a googly. Consequently, the original decision was overturned, allowing Jurel to continue his innings.
This incident occurred during the 16th over of Rajasthan Royals' chase of 189 runs. On the penultimate delivery of the over, DC's left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav bowled a googly to the new batsman Jurel, who attempted a sweep shot. The ball gripped the surface and turned, striking Jurel's pads. Following a loud appeal, the umpire raised his finger to signal an out decision.
As soon as the umpire declared Jurel out, Rahul instinctively approached Kuldeep, shaking his head and indicating that the ball had hit Jurel's forearm.
In the next moment, Jurel was seen signaling to his batting partner Nitish Rana regarding his forearm before making the 'T' gesture to request the DRS.
Jurel likely realized prior to the incident that the ball had struck his forearm, as he would have sensed the impact. However, Rahul's gestures only reinforced his conviction that he was not out.
The young batter from Rajasthan Royals nearly clinched victory against Delhi Capitals. With just two runs required from the final delivery bowled by Mitchell Starc, he was run out for a score of 26 off 17 balls while attempting to complete the second run. The match proceeded to a Super Over, as both teams concluded their 20 overs with a total of 188 runs.
In the Super Over, Rajasthan managed to score only 11 runs after Shimron Hetmyer and Riyan Parag each struck a boundary before being run out, concluding their innings with one ball remaining.
Chasing a target of 12 runs to win, KL Rahul began with a two, followed by a four, and Tristan Stubbs sealed the victory with a six on the fourth delivery from Sandeep Sharma.
Earlier in the match, an in-form Rahul contributed 38 runs and formed a partnership of 63 runs with Porel.
Axar then added 41 runs off 19 balls alongside South African Stubbs, as the duo showcased their batting prowess, delighting the home crowd while Delhi amassed 77 runs in the final five overs.
