KKR Star Grateful as Yuvraj Singh Becomes His Mentor Under the Sun
1 day ago | 5 Views
It has been six years since Yuvraj Singh's retirement from cricket, yet the iconic all-rounder remains actively involved in supporting Indian cricket. He has significantly contributed to the growth of players like Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma. Although he now spends a considerable amount of time on the golf course, Yuvraj's invaluable contributions continue to benefit Indian cricket. Any of these young players will attest to the brotherly bond they share with him. He is known for being approachable, well-liked, responsive, and appreciative. A notable instance of this was when Yuvraj video-called Abhishek to congratulate him on scoring his first international century against Zimbabwe.
While Gill and Abhishek are undoubtedly the most prominent success stories resulting from Yuvraj's dedication, there are others who are also making significant strides. One such player is Ramandeep Singh. The KKR all-rounder, regarded as one of the most promising talents in the Punjab and IPL circuits, spoke about his relationship with Yuvraj, highlighting how the two-time World Cup champion went above and beyond to assist him.
"I frequently converse with Yuvi paaji. Being from Punjab, I feel fortunate that he has witnessed my batting. After the initial Covid restrictions were lifted, we practiced at the PCA Stadium, where Yuvi paaji also joined us. On one occasion, he postponed his own practice session to help me by arranging the center wicket. He spent the entire afternoon in the sun at the umpire's position, recording videos of my batting. He took my number, shared those videos with me, and provided advice on what I needed to improve, what I was doing well, and what areas required attention," Ramandeep shared during a podcast with Ram Shamani.
That individual possesses an immense capacity for kindness. His personality is even more prominent than it was during his cricketing career. He consistently goes above and beyond, which is simply part of who he is. He has provided support to Shubman, Abhishek, Anmolpreet Singh, and Prabhsimran. When they face challenges in batting, they turn to Yuvraj Singh for guidance. He has never failed to respond to their calls, regardless of how busy he is throughout the year; he always finds time for them.
Ramandeep wants to emulate Yuvraj
Ramandeep aspires to follow in Yuvraj's footsteps. Currently a player for the Knight Riders, he remained not out on 6 runs as KKR faced a defeat against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2025 season opener on Saturday. However, there is more to his story. In his pursuit of emulating his idol, Ramandeep has come close on two occasions to matching Yuvraj's achievement of hitting six sixes in a single over. He managed to hit five sixes in an over during the Sher-e-Punjab tournament on two separate occasions, yet he has not been able to complete the feat. Has he discussed with Yuvraj what he might be lacking?
"I am eager to hit six sixes in an over, not to surpass Yuvraj’s record or anything of that sort. What he has accomplished is extraordinary. I am unsure what goes wrong with the sixth ball; there seems to be something missing. He [Yuvraj] believes it is destined to happen, and it will occur when the time is right," he stated.
More importantly, it is about my personal experience. You can accumulate runs, but that does not always bring satisfaction. Conversely, scoring 35 runs with perfect timing and hitting the ball cleanly brings an unparalleled sense of joy.
