Lucknow Super Giants' head coach, Justin Langer, shared an important update regarding Mayank Yadav's recovery from injury following his team's significant victory against the Mumbai Indians on Friday. The LSG has had a mixed beginning to IPL 2025, achieving two wins and two losses in their first four matches. The team's pace department has faced injury challenges early in the tournament, but there is encouraging news about Mayank, who was retained for an impressive INR 11 crore.

Mayank, who made a strong impression in his IPL debut last year, is currently rehabilitating from a lumbar stress injury at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). This injury occurred after he made his debut for India in the T20I series against Bangladesh last October.

Justin Langer disclosed that Mayank has made significant progress, recovering approximately 95 percent and is diligently preparing to pass his fitness assessment.

"I know he is putting in a lot of effort at the NCA, and I saw footage of him bowling yesterday [Thursday], where he was clocking speeds of about 90 to 95%," Langer mentioned during the press conference.

The LSG head coach expressed his admiration for Mayank, highlighting his exceptional raw pace, which he considers a unique asset for the team.

"Mayank is back in action, which is fantastic news for Indian cricket and the IPL. We witnessed the impact he had last year. I don't believe there is another bowler in India who has bowled faster than Mayank Yadav, which is why he garners so much attention," he added.

During the press conference, Langer appeared jubilant after his team's victory over the five-time champions and even picked up a reporter's mobile phone that had been left on his desk while addressing the media.

Langer inquired, “Who is Maa?”

He sought permission and personally answered the call from the reporter's mother. Upon picking up the phone, he stated, "Mom, it's 12:08 AM, and I am currently at a press conference."

"NCA done a very good job because…"

Langer praised the NCA for their efforts in working with the players, particularly highlighting how they aided in the recovery of Avesh Khan and Akash Deep, helping them regain their fitness after their respective injuries.

"He's awake and eager to start. He bowled impressively in Bangalore yesterday at the NCA. I believe he needs just a couple more practice sessions, and hopefully... the NCA deserves credit for their excellent work in bringing Avesh Khan back to us and also in getting Akash Deep back on the field. We truly value their efforts in helping the players return to action, and we are optimistic about Mayank as well," he continued.
