Jose Mourinho 'assaults' Galatasaray coach; pulls Okan Buruk's nose, knocks him down after Turkish Cup defeat

Jose Mourinho has become embroiled in yet another controversy following allegations from Galatasaray, which claim that the Fenerbahce manager "physically attacked" their coach, Okan Buruk, after a tense Turkish Cup quarter-final match. The match concluded with Galatasaray securing a 2-1 victory, highlighted by two goals from Victor Osimhen, but it was the events that transpired post-match that drew significant attention from fans.
The confrontation occurred in the center circle, where both managers were engaged with the match officials after the final whistle. Mourinho approached Buruk from behind and seemingly pinched his nose, causing the Galatasaray coach to fall to the ground while holding his face.
This incident incited anger within the Galatasaray organization, prompting the club’s vice-president, Metin Ozturk, to deliver a harsh critique of the Portuguese manager.
"Our coach Okan and Mourinho were congratulating the referees. Following that, while Okan was still speaking, Mourinho verbally and then physically assaulted him," Ozturk stated. “Where else in the world would this be acceptable? What does he think of Turkey? I trust that Fenerbahce's management will take appropriate action before the federation intervenes.”

Buruk sought to minimize the incident despite the allegations against him. "There was nothing between me and Mourinho," he remarked. "He pinched my nose from behind, resulting in a minor scratch. Naturally, it was not a pleasant or dignified action. We expect managers to conduct themselves more appropriately in such circumstances. I won't blow this out of proportion, but it certainly lacked class."
The match, already fraught with tension, culminated in three red cards during stoppage time, with Fenerbahce’s Mert Yandas and Galatasaray’s Kerem Demirbay and Baris Yilmaz all being dismissed following a confrontation along the touchline.
This incident is not Mourinho's first altercation with Galatasaray. After a goalless Super Lig match between the two teams in February, Galatasaray accused him of making "racist remarks" and pledged to "pursue legal action."
In response, the Turkish Football Federation imposed a four-match suspension on Mourinho and fined him £35,194 for two disciplinary violations, leading the Fenerbahce manager to file a lawsuit against Galatasaray for "the infringement of his personal rights."
Mourinho took the helm at Fenerbahce prior to the 2024/25 season, and his team currently sits six points behind league leaders Galatasaray, occupying second place in the Turkish league, although they have a game in hand. Last season, Fenerbahce also finished second, amassing 99 points—three points shy of Galatasaray.
Under Mourinho's leadership, Fenerbahce advanced to the round of 16 in the Europa League but faced a devastating exit, losing in a penalty shootout to the Scottish team Rangers.
