Jofra Archer Records Unwanted IPL History with Worst Bowling Figures Against SRH
4 days ago | 5 Views
Rajasthan Royals' fast bowler Jofra Archer set an unwanted milestone in the franchise's first match of IPL 2025, becoming the most expensive bowler in the tournament's history. He ended up with disappointing figures of 0/76 in just four overs, surpassing Mohit Sharma's previous record of 73 runs without a wicket while playing for Gujarat Titans last season.
The England speedster, known for his lightning-fast deliveries and white-ball prowess, was completely dominated by the SRH batsmen in Hyderabad.
Right from the start, Travis Head and Ishan Kishan went after Archer, hitting boundaries with ease. None of Archer's variations—slower balls, yorkers, or hard-length deliveries—worked on the excellent pitch. Even when he executed a perfect wide yorker in his last over, Heinrich Klaasen managed to edge it for four runs, highlighting the severe punishment Archer endured that day.
By the end of his spell, Archer had been hit for eight fours and six sixes. His difficulties weren't solely due to poor execution; SRH's aggressive batting, spearheaded by Kishan's explosive century (106*) and Head's audacious style, turned the first innings into a nightmare for bowlers.
Archer wasn't the only one to face the heat in the afternoon match in Hyderabad, as SRH finished just one run shy of matching their own record for the highest total in IPL history, concluding at 286/6.
Here's the rundown of the most expensive bowlers in IPL history:
- 0/76 - Jofra Archer (RR) facing SRH in Hyderabad today
- 0/73 - Mohit Sharma (GT) against DC in Delhi, 2024
- 0/70 - Basil Thampi (SRH) competing with RCB in Bengaluru, 2018
- 0/69 - Yash Dayal (GT) going up against KKR in Ahmedabad, 2023
- 1/68 - Reece Topley (RCB) versus SRH in Bengaluru, 2024
- 1/68 - Luke Wood (MI) taking on DC in Delhi, 2024
Archer makes a comeback after two years
Jofra Archer sat out the 2024 tournament season but was picked up by the Royals, making a comeback to the team after previously playing from 2018 to 2020. During his first run with the franchise, he had some standout performances, taking 15, 11, and 20 wickets in the IPL seasons of 2018, 2019, and 2020, respectively.
In the auction last November, RR faced stiff competition to acquire Archer, ultimately winning him over for INR 12.50 crore.
