New Delhi: Joaquin Niemann thrives on excitement and adventure. As a two-time PGA Tour champion and an admitted adrenaline enthusiast, he enjoys hiking and closely follows McLaren’s Lando Norris in Formula One. It is therefore unsurprising that the Chilean has swiftly achieved success in golf, becoming the first golfer from his nation to secure a victory on the PGA Tour, in addition to finishing as the runner-up in the LIV Golf League individual standings and claiming the International Series rankings title in just his second season on the alternative tour.

Niemann, who leads Torque GC in the LIV Golf League, celebrated two victories last year in Mayakoba and Jeddah, along with two second-place and two third-place finishes, narrowly missing out to two-time Major champion Jon Rahm, captain of Legion XIII.

“It has been a solid year, although I would have preferred to finish in first place at the season's conclusion. Nevertheless, a year like this motivates me to work even harder. I dedicated significant effort, and it is gratifying to see that hard work yields results,” Niemann remarked.

The 26-year-old is set to visit India later this month for the International Series, which will make its debut at the DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurugram. “I am very much looking forward to my trip to India. I have heard a great deal about its rich culture and civilization, and I am eager to explore some of it while playing golf,” he stated.

With Crushers GC captain Bryson DeChambeau leading the way, Niemann will be part of a formidable group of 15 LIV members arriving for the first time to showcase their skills on the challenging DLF course.

I have encountered numerous remarks concerning the course, which is characterized by particularly challenging and complex holes. I believe this aspect is advantageous as it will test every player. I am very much looking forward to teeing off in India and would like to extend my gratitude to Anirban Lahiri for motivating me to come to India for golf, Niemann, who usually begins his season in Oman, remarked.

While the spotlight will be on the 2024 US Open champion DeChambeau, renowned for his analytical and scientific approach to the game as well as his impressive driving distance, Niemann has been diligently working to keep pace with the 'Mad Scientist' in terms of performance.

"I can hit the ball quite far myself. In fact, I might have a better seasonal average than Bryson," he said with a laugh, acknowledging the significant trend in international golf towards longer drives. "This is simply the nature of the game today. It is essential to hit straight as well as long. There is a considerable amount of science involved," he continued. According to LIV Golf statistics for 2024, DeChambeau ranks first with an average driving distance of 323.5 yards, while Niemann follows closely in second place at 322.5 yards.

A crucial element in achieving distance is the development of physical strength and explosive power, which Niemann particularly enjoys. "I genuinely like going to the gym and lifting weights. I train four days a week and set aside a day for stretching and mobility. This routine helps me connect with my body and understand my capabilities," Niemann, who typically squats 150kg, stated.

In a recent Instagram video, Niemann showcased his practice of 36 and 42-inch vertical jumps. "This is to give Bryson a scare," he playfully remarked before executing the jumps. Joking aside, enhancing explosive power was a key focus for Niemann as he entered this season, with the goal of excelling on the LIV tour.

"I concentrated heavily on weight transfer and body balance during my swing. Grasping foot pressure and how my body shifts weight was crucial. Subsequently, I engaged in various exercises to increase my swing speed and power. Ultimately, all these small details contribute significantly."
