Jasprit Bumrah's Recovery: Bed Rest and Uncertain Champions Trophy Future

2 months ago | 5 Views

Uncertainty regarding Jasprit Bumrah's involvement in the forthcoming Champions Trophy tournament persists, as a recent report from the Times of India indicated that the prominent fast bowler has been prescribed bed rest, with no definitive diagnosis provided. Bumrah experienced back spasms during the Sydney Test match against Australia, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has yet to issue an official statement regarding the severity of his injury.

The report suggests that Bumrah, whose current condition appears concerning, is expected to visit the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru.

"Bumrah may head to the CoE next week, although no specific date has been established. He has been advised to rest at home to facilitate muscle recovery and reduce swelling. Once this is achieved, the next steps will be determined," a source informed the newspaper.

Additionally, the report noted that Bumrah, who is experiencing swelling in his back due to the injury, is unlikely to be hurried back into action. Given the lack of clarity surrounding his diagnosis, the 31-year-old's return to competitive play may be delayed.

"Bed rest is not a positive sign. I hope it is not indicative of a disc bulge or severe muscle swelling. The approach should be cautious—protecting and nurturing a talent like him is essential," the source remarked.

Selectors await final medical report

Indian players face a demanding schedule shortly, commencing with the home white-ball series against England, followed by the Champions Trophy, the Indian Premier League, and subsequently the Test series in England. As the selectors have some time before announcing the provisional squad on Sunday, and with teams permitted to modify their lists until February 13, the report indicated that the committee led by Ajit Agarkar is awaiting the final medical report on Bumrah before making a decision.
