Jasprit Bumrah's remarkable efforts were ultimately in vain as India suffered a defeat in the Boxing Day Test by 184 runs, resulting in a 1-2 series deficit. However, the Australian media expressed admiration for the Indian pacer's outstanding performances. Bumrah secured four wickets in the first innings and improved upon that in the second, achieving an impressive five-wicket haul, totalling nine wickets for the match. He has consistently been a standout performer for India, surpassing his fellow bowlers with his exceptional reliability throughout the initial Tests.

The Sydney Morning Herald, a prominent Australian news outlet, recognized Bumrah's contributions to the Boxing Day Test, awarding him a perfect score of 10/10 for his extraordinary display. He was the sole player from either team to receive this top rating, while Pat Cummins, the best performer from the victorious side, received a score of 9.5. Bumrah was even referred to as the new king of Indian cricket.

In contrast, Indian captain Rohit Sharma received a mere 1 out of 10 from The Sydney Morning Herald, and Virat Kohli, who underperformed in both innings, was rated at 3.5.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Nitish Kumar Reddy were the other two Indian players who garnered respectable ratings, each earning an 8.

Bumrah currently leads the wicket-taking charts in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, with a total of 30 wickets, which is 10 more than the second-placed Cummins.

‘Jasprit Bumrah has been India’s most influential player': Cummins

During the post-match press conference, Cummins remarked that Bumrah has posed significant challenges for Australia at various points throughout the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.

"He is an exceptional bowler in outstanding form. He has been their most impactful player and has made things difficult for us at times. I thought all their bowlers performed admirably yesterday. While the pitch did not offer excessive assistance, they made it quite challenging for us and worked diligently. Overall, I believe they all bowled effectively, but he, in particular, represents the greatest threat," Cummins stated during the press conference.

On the fourth day of the Boxing Day Test match, Bumrah surpassed the legendary leg-spinner Anil Kumble to become the second-highest wicket-taker from Asia in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia) conditions.

In contrast, the Indian batting lineup faltered under pressure during the 340-run chase, being dismissed for just 155 runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal was the sole batter to show resilience with a score of 84, but a contentious decision from the third umpire ended his innings, allowing Australia to seize full control of the match.
