Jasprit Bumrah and Smriti Mandhana have achieved a remarkable feat by being recognized as the Leading Cricketer in the World for men and women, respectively, in this year's Wisden Cricketers' Almanack, released on Tuesday. Their outstanding performances throughout the year have earned them this prestigious honor.

Despite India's defeat in the 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, Bumrah received widespread acclaim for his contributions, being credited with keeping India competitive during the series. He claimed 32 wickets at an impressive average of 13.06. In total, he secured 71 Test wickets last year, maintaining an average of under 15.

Bumrah made history as the first Test bowler to achieve 200 wickets with an average of less than 20. His exceptional bowling was also pivotal in India's triumph at the 2024 T20 World Cup, where his figures of 2/18 in the final played a crucial role in India’s victory over South Africa, who at one point needed only 30 runs from the last 30 balls. Throughout the tournament, Bumrah took 15 wickets, and his remarkable economy rate of 4.17 across eight matches, along with an average of 8.26, earned him the player of the tournament accolade.

On the other hand, Smriti Mandhana made history by scoring 1659 runs across all formats in 2024, the highest by a woman in a single calendar year of international cricket. She also achieved four ODI centuries, the most by any player in a calendar year of women's cricket. Additionally, Mandhana broke Suzie Bates' record for the most fifty-plus scores in T20 internationals and amassed a total of 763 runs in women's T20Is, setting a new record for the most runs scored in a calendar year.
