It appears that Chris Martin, the lead vocalist of Coldplay, is an ardent admirer of Jasprit Bumrah. For the second consecutive day, Martin paused his concert to honour the top-ranked Test bowler at the Dr DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Bumrah, aged 31, responded to the acknowledgement from Coldplay and Chris Martin on Monday evening, expressing that it is truly special to be "mentioned."
On Sunday, Chris Martin delivered a heartfelt tribute to Bumrah, who recently achieved 32 wickets in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, earning the title of Player of the Series. During the performance, a video was shown featuring Bumrah's remarkable dismissal of England's Ollie Pope during the 2024 Test series.
"With utmost respect and admiration for Jasprit, the world's No.1. We hope to convey our love for Jasprit by presenting a brief clip of India triumphing over England. Please take a look," stated Chris Martin during the concert in Mumbai on January 19.
Bumrah took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a segment from Coldplay's concert in Mumbai, noting that the tribute certainly brought a smile to his face.
"This truly made me smile! The atmosphere at the @coldplay concert in Mumbai (from what I’ve seen) is incredible, and it’s even more special to be acknowledged," Jasprit Bumrah wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Chris Martin jokes about Bumrah being backstage
During Coldplay's inaugural concert in Mumbai on Saturday, January 18, Chris Martin stated that Bumrah was present backstage, requesting a halt to the performance as he wished to bowl at him.
However, on the following day, Chris Martin retracted his statement, labelling it a "lie" and expressing his apologies. “This is a serious matter. Yesterday, during our performance, we mentioned that Jasprit Bumrah had asked us to pause the show because he was backstage and wanted to bowl at me. This was not accurate. It was a falsehood. I sincerely apologize."
Regarding Bumrah, he has recently been included in India's 15-member squad for the forthcoming Champions Trophy, although his participation is "subject to fitness."
The Indian fast bowler experienced back spasms during the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Sydney. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has yet to provide an official update on Bumrah's condition.
Reports indicate that Bumrah is experiencing swelling in his back, prompting him to report to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
