Jasprit Bumrah is on fire in Australia, proving himself as India's top bowler in the current Test series. The vice-captain has been in fantastic form, playing a key role in India's comeback Down Under. He kicked off the series with an amazing 8-wicket haul, and his strong performances kept rolling, with 4 wickets in the pink-ball Test in Adelaide and an impressive nine-wicket haul at the Gabba.

His consistent excellence continued as he took out four Australian batsmen in their first innings during the ongoing Test in Melbourne. In the second innings, he struck early by dismissing young Sam Konstas.

Bumrah's journey in Australia started back in the 2018/19 series, but this tour has been a game-changer for him. With the wicket of Konstas in Australia’s second innings, he became the Indian pacer with the most wickets in a Test series in Australia, surpassing the legendary Kapil Dev.

Now, Bumrah tops the chart with 26 wickets, just ahead of Kapil Dev’s 25 wickets from the 1991/92 series.

Indian bowlers with the highest wicket tally in a series down under:
  • Jasprit Bumrah – 26 wickets
  • Kapil Dev – 25 wickets
  • Jasprit Bumrah – 21 wickets (2018/19)
  • Kapil Dev – 19 wickets

Bumrah has one more Test match left in the series, and he’s got a shot at making history by becoming the only Indian fast bowler to take over 30 wickets in a single series. He already had an impressive outing during the 2020/21 tour of Australia, where he picked up 11 wickets, solidifying his place as one of India’s top fast bowlers.

In the current Test, Bumrah is still showing off his skills, but Australia is in a strong position. India set a solid target of 369 runs, thanks to a century from Nitish Kumar Reddy and his partnership with Washington Sundar. However, Australia is leading by 168 runs in their second innings, with 8 wickets still in hand.

The series stands at 1-1 right now, and the last two Tests are going to be key in deciding who takes the trophy home.
