On Sunday, a wave of optimism swept through the Mumbai Indians camp as Jasprit Bumrah made his return in anticipation of their upcoming IPL 2025 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The Indian fast bowler, who has been recuperating from a persistent back injury, was spotted sharing a heartfelt moment with teammate Trent Boult at Wankhede Stadium. This reunion was later shared on social media by MI, much to the joy of their fans.

Bumrah has been sidelined since January due to a back injury sustained on the second day of the fifth and final Test against Australia in Sydney. This injury not only ruled him out of the remainder of that match, where Australia clinched the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 3-1, but also kept him from participating in India's home series against England and the Champions Trophy held in February and March.

Following medical recommendations, Bumrah underwent a five-week rest period before commencing his rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. His recovery was closely observed, but there was no official announcement regarding the National Cricket Academy's (NCA) clearance for him to return to competitive play.

However, Bumrah has now confirmed that he has received the green light to resume playing. “Finally got the clearance,” he shared with Boult.

The uplifting images of Bumrah donning the MI jersey once again, accompanied by his wife Sanjana Ganesan and their son Angad, have significantly boosted the spirits of MI supporters, especially as the team has been struggling to gain traction this season. With only one victory in their first four matches, the five-time champions find themselves in the lower half of the standings and urgently require a turnaround.

The only IPL season Bumrah missed was in 2023 due to a severe back injury that sidelined him for the entire tournament, necessitating surgery. His return, boasting 165 wickets in 133 matches, comes at a crucial time for a team in search of motivation.

While early reports indicated he might be available for MI’s match against Delhi Capitals, his engagement with the team before the RCB game has ignited renewed optimism. For the moment, MI fans remain hopeful, eager for their key player to be ready to contribute when it is most needed.
