Jasprit Bumrah Back at NCA: Seeking Fitness Clearance Ahead of IPL 2025

8 days ago | 5 Views

India's fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah made his way back to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru on Thursday to get the green light for the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. There's a renewed sense of hope for both Bumrah and the Mumbai Indians as they eagerly await some good news about his recovery.

As reported by Cricbuzz, Bumrah was at the NCA just a week ago but felt pain and discomfort while bowling. The staff there recommended some specific exercises and asked him to come back later for another assessment.

The report also mentioned that if the 31-year-old feels good while bowling this time and doesn't have any issues, he should receive clearance from the NCA. However, it might take at least another week, which means he will miss the first two matches for Mumbai—against Chennai Super Kings on March 23 and Gujarat Titans on March 29. If everything goes smoothly, Bumrah could be back in action for the home game against Kolkata Knight Riders on March 31.

What were Mahela Jayawardene's thoughts on Bumrah?

During a press conference ahead of the season, MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene shared an upbeat update about the Indian star.

He mentioned, "He’s just begun his recovery process. We’ll have to wait for feedback on his condition. Right now, things are looking positive, but it’s a day-to-day situation. He’s feeling good, and we’re hopeful he can rejoin the team soon. Not having him is definitely a challenge since he’s one of the top bowlers globally and has been an incredible asset for us over the years."

Additionally, the report noted that Sanju Samson, who injured his finger during India's T20I series against England in January, is set to return to the NCA next month for clearance. For the time being, he is expected to play as a batter in the first few matches for the Rajasthan Royals, which is why the team has appointed Riyan Parag as their temporary captain.
