Jason Gillespie initiates legal proceedings against PCB, citing ICC in escalating contract dispute: Report

On Tuesday, former head coach of Pakistan, Jason Gillespie, responded to the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) denial of any contractual dispute, following his legal action against the board. The 50-year-old claimed he was owed compensation for his services and accused the PCB of multiple contract violations.

Gillespie took to Instagram to share a video interview with Pakistani media, asserting that the PCB still owes him outstanding payments. Appointed in April 2024 on a two-year contract, the former Australian fast bowler resigned from his position as the Pakistan red-ball coach in December of the previous year.

Gillespie stated to PakPassion, 'Yes, without going into details. I’m still waiting on some remuneration from work that’s being done. So I’ll just navigate through that in due course.' In contrast, the PCB denied these allegations, issuing a statement that accused Gillespie of failing to provide the required four-month notice period as outlined in his contract.

The PCB's media statement read, 'The Pakistan Cricket Board refutes claims made by a former head coach regarding the non-payment of his dues. The PCB spokesman stated that the former head coach left his position abruptly without giving the stipulated four-month notice period, which constituted a clear breach of the contractual terms. The coaching contract explicitly stated a notice period applicable to both parties, and the coach was fully aware of this requirement.'

Gillespie takes PCB to court

According to a report from Tribune.com.pk, Gillespie has initiated legal proceedings against the PCB following their allegations.

He has also escalated the issue to the International Cricket Council (ICC), although it remains uncertain whether it falls within the jurisdiction of the governing body. Meanwhile, the PCB announced on its official website on Saturday that it is inviting applications for the roles of head coach for the national team and director of its high-performance centre located in Lahore.

Aaqib Javed, a former Test fast bowler, has been serving as the interim head coach across all formats since the resignations of Gary Kirsten and Gillespie last year. As reported by PTI, Aaqib is interested in assuming the role of Director of the High Performance Centre and therefore prefers not to continue in the head coach position.
