World number one Jannik Sinner advanced to his second consecutive Australian Open final on Friday, defeating Ben Shelton of the United States in straight sets. Sinner triumphed with scores of 7-6, 6-2, 6-2, maintaining his pursuit of a repeat title at the Australian Open.

In the final, Sinner will face Germany's Alexander Zverev, who emerged victorious in the first semi-final against Serbian tennis icon Novak Djokovic. Zverev claimed the first set 7-6, after which Djokovic was compelled to retire due to an injury. Notably, the final will feature the top two seeds from the tournament.

With this victory, the 23-year-old Sinner becomes the youngest male player to reach multiple finals at the Australian Open since Jim Courier in 1992-93, and he continues to aspire to be the first Italian to win three Grand Slam singles titles.

Although Shelton initially showcased dominance with a forehand winner and a significant break, Sinner maintained his composure. The top seed rallied to equalize at 2-2 and consistently pressured Shelton’s formidable serve. In a critical moment during the 11th game, Sinner saved two set points before clinching the first set in a tiebreak, taking advantage of Shelton’s errors and mounting frustration.

In the second set, Sinner found his rhythm, quickly establishing a 4-0 lead through a display of precision and aggression. Shelton struggled to match Sinner's pace as the Italian extended his lead, leaving the American with minimal opportunity for recovery.

The third set proved tense, with Sinner seeking medical assistance for a left leg issue after breaking to lead 3-2. Nevertheless, the Italian remained steadfast, executing vital winners to conclude the match and secure his place in consecutive Grand Slam finals following his victory at the U.S. Open.

The stage is now prepared for an exciting final encounter in Melbourne.
