4 hours ago | 5 Views
Narayan Jagadeesan of Tamil Nadu showcased an extraordinary batting performance during the pre-quarterfinal match against Rajasthan in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 on Thursday. He launched an aggressive assault on Rajasthan's Aman Shekhawat, hitting six consecutive boundaries right from the start.
The over commenced with Shekhawat delivering five wides on the opening ball, after which Jagadeesan opened his account with a thick outside edge that sailed over the slip fielders for a boundary. He quickly found his rhythm, executing a flawless drive to point for a second consecutive four.
In response, Shekhawat opted for a short-pitched delivery on the third ball, which Jagadeesan seized upon, directing it towards third man for his third boundary in succession. He maintained his aggressive approach by cutting the fourth ball to deep point for yet another four, followed by a pull to deep square leg on the fifth delivery.
Jagadeesan capped off this remarkable over with a boundary to fine leg on the final ball, achieving six consecutive fours and accumulating a total of 29 runs from that over.
The aggressive batting display enabled Tamil Nadu to make a rapid start, accumulating 39 runs within the first two overs of their chase. Jagadeesan concluded his innings with a commendable score of 65 runs off 52 deliveries, while Vijay Shankar contributed significantly with 49 runs from 69 balls.
Nevertheless, despite their explosive beginning, Tamil Nadu was unable to sustain the momentum and ultimately fell short in their chase of 268 runs. They were all out for 248 in 47.1 overs, losing the match by a margin of 19 runs.
Rajasthan's bowlers regrouped effectively following Jagadeesan's onslaught, with Shekhawat achieving figures of 3/60 in 8.1 overs. Aniket Choudhary (2/40) and Kukna Ajay Singh (2/59) also played crucial roles by taking important wickets.
Earlier, after being asked to bat first, Rajasthan was dismissed for 267 runs in 47.3 overs. Abhijeet Tomar was the standout performer for Rajasthan, scoring an impressive 111 runs off 125 balls, marking his fourth List-A century. He was well-supported by captain Mahipal Lomror, who scored 60 runs off 49 balls, and Kartik Sharma, who added 35 runs from 28 balls.
In response, Tamil Nadu's bowling attack was spearheaded by Varun Chakravarthy, who delivered an outstanding performance with figures of 5/62 in nine overs. Sai Kishore (2/49) and Sandeep Warrier (2/38) also made significant contributions, but Rajasthan's total proved to be a challenging target for Tamil Nadu.
