Ravindra Jadeja, the prominent all-rounder for Team India, achieved yet another significant milestone in his distinguished career by attaining his 35th five-wicket haul in first-class cricket during the Ranji Trophy match between Saurashtra and Delhi. The left-arm spinner expressed his excitement on Instagram, sharing an image of the ball that facilitated his five wickets in the first innings.

In his Instagram story, he captioned it, “35th ball in FC cricket,” underscoring this remarkable accomplishment. The ball was also inscribed with the impressive figures from his performance: 5/66.

Jadeja's exceptional performance on the first day provided Saurashtra with a significant advantage. His accurate and disciplined bowling effectively dismantled Delhi’s batting order, which collapsed for a mere 188 runs. Jadeja’s skill in extracting turn and bounce from a spinner-friendly pitch left the opposing batsmen bewildered.

Additionally, fellow left-arm spinner Dharmendra Jadeja contributed by taking three wickets, further solidifying Saurashtra’s dominance in the bowling department.

Despite the return of their star player Rishabh Pant, Delhi faced challenges, although captain Ayush Badoni and Yash Dhull displayed some resilience. Badoni managed a commendable 60 runs off 78 balls, including five boundaries and two sixes, while Dhull added 44 runs off 76 balls, hitting eight fours.

In reply, Saurashtra concluded the day at 163 for five, falling just 26 runs short of establishing a crucial first-innings lead. Opener Harvik Desai emerged as the standout batsman, scoring a well-constructed 93 runs off 120 balls, featuring eight boundaries.

The pitch at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot is increasingly advantageous for spinners, setting the stage for an intriguing contest on the second day. With Ravindra Jadeja in outstanding form, Saurashtra will seek to capitalize on their advantage and secure a substantial lead.

Jadeja top performer among international players

The first day of the Ranji Trophy round on Thursday proved to be a forgettable experience for the stars of Team India. Indian captain Rohit Sharma made his long-awaited return to first-class cricket after nearly ten years but was unable to leave a significant impact, scoring only 3 runs off 19 deliveries against Jammu & Kashmir.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, who opened the innings alongside Rohit, managed to contribute just 4 runs, while Shreyas Iyer also struggled, finishing with a mere 12 runs. In the case of Punjab, Shubman Gill, who captained the team upon his return, could only muster 4 runs as the team was dismissed for a paltry total of 55 runs by Karnataka.
