Jadeja’s Powerful Bat Swing Backfires as He Fails Measurement Test
6 days ago | 5 Views
Ravindra Jadeja has become the most recent cricketer to not pass the bat gauge test in the current Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. The CSK batter did not succeed in the initial test when he came to bat in the fifth over of the innings against SunRisers Hyderabad at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Immediately after Jadeja stepped onto the field, the on-field officials examined his bat multiple times.
Jadeja wore a bemused expression throughout, and the situation concluded with the all-rounder gesturing towards the dressing room, requesting another bat. In a comical sequence of events, Jadeja also struck his bat on the ground a few times to ensure that it would pass the test.
After striking his bat on the ground, he requested the officials to verify if his bat passed through the gauge. However, it failed to do so, and Shreyas Gopal rushed out with a different bat.
As the situation unfolded on the field, former Australia captain Michael Clarke remarked on air, "The bat you take out on the ground—that’s the only one that needs to be checked. Then, if you break it or get a new one, check it again. I like this new rule. "
For those unaware, Jadeja's first ball hit the bat's outer edge and resulted in a four between the short-third fielder and wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen.
"Ah, the skinny one gets the edge. The wider one that’d have hit the middle," observed Clarke.
For the uninitiated, according to the regulations, the bat's width is restricted to 4. 25 inches (10. 8 cm), with a maximum depth of 2. 64 inches (6. 7 cm) and edges not going beyond 1. 56 inches (4. 0 cm). The handle must also not exceed 52 percent of the bat’s total length.
Previously, Kolkata Knight Riders' Sunil Narine and Anrich Nortje had also not passed the bat gauge test in the ongoing 18th edition of the IPL.
SRH opt to bowl after winning the toss
SunRisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins won the toss and decided to bowl first against MS Dhoni and company at the Chepauk.
Jadeja ultimately returned to the pavilion after making 21 runs off 17 balls. Kamindu Mendis took his wicket as he disturbed the left-hander's stumps.
The match between SunRisers and Chennai Super Kings is a contest between the bottom teams as both are struggling in the lower half of the points table.
The team that loses will almost certainly be eliminated from the playoffs chase in the current season.
