Ishan Kishan on Rizwan:

Ishan Kishan on Rizwan: "If I Acted Like Him, People Would Talk"

Indian wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan, who recently achieved his first IPL century in his debut match for Sunrisers Hyderabad, made a humorous comment regarding Pakistan's white-ball captain, Mohammad Rizwan. In a social media post featuring Indian umpire Anil Chaudhary, Kishan indicated that he does not wish to imitate the on-field conduct of the Pakistani keeper-batter.

In a video shared on his Instagram account, Chaudhary asked Kishan about his development as a player, remarking, “You have matured and now only appeal when necessary. In the past, you appealed for everything. What prompted this change?”

Kishan, 26, replied, “I think umpires have become more perceptive. If I appeal for every single instance, even when the decision is out, they might rule it not out. Therefore, I choose to appeal only when it is truly out, which helps instill their confidence that we are making the correct calls.”

Kishan referenced Rizwan as a warning against certain behaviors to steer clear of. "If I were to act like Mohammad Rizwan, you would never make a favorable decision for me," he stated.

The captain of the Pakistan white-ball team has been criticized in the past for his overly animated demeanor while behind the stumps. While he is undoubtedly a talented wicketkeeper, his vocal style and frequent appeals have sometimes annoyed umpires and rival batsmen, especially in instances where the decision is clearly not out.

Kishan aims to continue strong season start

Chaudhary leverages his Instagram platform to share insights regarding cricket rules and the nuances of umpiring. The experienced official sought Kishan's opinion on the standard of umpiring.

"There are certain umpires with whom we, as players, find it enjoyable to compete," Kishan remarked. "Nonetheless, there is always room for improvement. Umpires should make their decisions with confidence; if they believe the batter is out, they ought to signal him out. They must remain unaffected by external influences such as appeals."

Kishan had a remarkable start to the IPL season after being signed by SRH for 11 crore, scoring 106 runs off 47 balls as the team amassed a total of 286 against RR.

Looking forward, SRH will host an upcoming match against LSG, aiming to continue their winning streak.
