Sunrisers Hyderabad batter Ishan Kishan, on Wednesday, was dismissed in an unusual manner against Mumbai Indians at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad as he exited the field despite there being no appeal, only to realize later that he was indeed not out. The strange event left fans on social media outraged at Ishan, even questioning his honesty.

The occurrence took place on the first ball of the third over when the delivery from Deepak Chahar went down the leg side against Ishan. The wicketkeeper gathered the ball and was just about to throw it back into play when the umpire initially ruled it a wide ball. However, within moments, he altered his decision and raised his finger after noticing Ishan leaving the field. There was hardly any appeal from Mumbai Indians, as players like Chahar and captain Hardik Pandya were more focused on whether it was a wide ball or not.

Hardik quickly moved towards Ishan to congratulate him for his 'spirit of cricket' gesture. Nevertheless, the replay revealed no contact on the snicko, leaving the SRH batter regretting his decision in the dressing room.

The strange incident left fans bewildered and then furious, as they accused Ishan of "match-fixing. "

A horror show for Sunrisers

Batting was their advantage as Sunrisers ended up as runners-up in IPL 2024, but the same team has struggled this season, where the 2016 champions have secured only two victories so far to currently occupy the ninth position in the points table.

Asked to bat first, the Sunrisers concluded the powerplay with merely 24 runs at the expense of four wickets. This marked the first occasion in 12 years that they had lost their initial four wickets for fewer than 20 runs. The situation could have been far worse, with SRH likely facing the worst batting performance in IPL history, until Heinrich Klaasen unleashed an explosive 44-ball 71, while forming a courageous 99-run partnership with Abhinav Manohar, who contributed a well-structured 37-ball 43. SRH ultimately ended their innings at 145 for seven in 20 overs.
