Ishan Kishan Celebrates Decade-Long Wait with Maiden IPL Century on SRH Debut

3 days ago | 5 Views

Ishan Kishan has found a new home with Sunrisers Hyderabad, and he kicked off his journey in style by scoring his first IPL century during the match against Rajasthan Royals. The wicketkeeper-batter took center stage, becoming the first player to hit a century in IPL 2025, achieving this milestone in just 45 balls.

After spending seven years with the Mumbai Indians, Kishan made a significant impact on his SRH debut, finally securing his first IPL century in his tenth season. He seamlessly blended in with SRH's dynamic left-handed opening pair, Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head, making his mark in the star-studded lineup. Kishan unleashed a powerful performance, scoring 106 runs off 47 balls, featuring 11 fours and 6 sixes, with an impressive strike rate of 225.53.

The 2016 IPL champions went all out to acquire Kishan during the mega auction, signing him for a staggering INR 11.25 crore. He had a strong pre-season with SRH, showcasing his aggressive batting style in intra-squad matches. He carried that momentum into the season opener, dominating the Rajasthan Royals bowlers and finally ending his decade-long wait for a century in the lucrative league.

The Indian batter, who had fallen out of favor, made sure he stood out in the dynamic SRH batting lineup by consistently finding the boundary. He not only secured his half-century with consecutive sixes but also reached his century with a four, asserting his dominance over the Royals' bowlers. He exuded confidence at the crease and wasn't afraid to use the reverse sweep to score runs.

Last season with the Mumbai Indians was challenging for him, as he managed only one half-century. The switch to SRH came at the perfect moment. The aggressive style of SRH allowed Kishan to unleash his shots right from the start. His impressive unbeaten 106 helped SRH set a total of 286/6, marking the second-highest score in IPL history for a team batting first.

Ishan Kishan's path to redemption

This season could be a turning point for Kishan, who has fallen out of favor with the Indian team after being removed from the BCCI central contract list. His last appearance for India was during the 2023 tour of South Africa, which he left early due to a personal break that the BCCI didn't appreciate. As a result, he's now lower in the hierarchy for wicketkeeper options, with players like KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, and Dhruv Jurel ahead of him. However, a standout performance in the IPL could turn things around for him.
