Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan has not been included in the commentary team for the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), according to broadcasters. Reports suggest he was overlooked due to allegations of bias and making "potshots" at certain players.

Since retiring, Pathan has frequently provided commentary in both English and Hindi for IPL matches and international games involving India. However, he was not selected for the upcoming IPL season. A Times of India report indicated that broadcasters were dissatisfied with his social media behavior, which included targeting specific players and airing personal grievances during broadcasts. It was also mentioned that he had a "fallout" with some players a few years ago.

"Pathan had a disagreement with a few players in the past, and since then, he hasn't hesitated to speak about them in a harsh manner. Concerns were raised that younger players were getting caught in the middle of this. He has faced accusations of taking jabs at them on social media, even if he didn't mention them by name," sources informed the newspaper.

In the meantime, Pathan has started his own YouTube channel.

Pathan isn't the first prominent figure to face consequences

The Indian cricket legend isn't the first well-known commentator to face consequences from broadcasters due to player complaints. Back in 2020, former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar was reportedly taken off the BCCI's commentary team for India's ODI series against South Africa after his controversial "bits and pieces" comment about Ravindra Jadeja during the 2019 ODI World Cup.

"I’ve always viewed commentary as a privilege, not a right. It’s up to my employers to decide if they want me on board, and I’ll always respect that. Perhaps the BCCI hasn’t been satisfied with my recent performance, and I accept that as a professional," Manjrekar shared on social media after the announcement.
