Irfan Pathan and Sanjay Manjrekar Clash Over Kohli-Jaiswal Run-Out on Live TV

Indian batting fell apart just 30 minutes before stumps on Day 2, leaving fans frustrated and sparking a debate between Sanjay Manjrekar and Irfan Pathan. During a chat on Star Sports Network, the two former cricketers clashed over the controversial run-out of Yashasvi Jaiswal, which led to some heated exchanges. India was in a solid position at 153/2, with Jaiswal and Kohli building a strong partnership of 102 runs, but then everything went downhill. They lost three wickets for just six runs, giving Australia a chance to bounce back in the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The crux of the disagreement between Pathan and Manjrekar revolved around Jaiswal's run-out and whether Kohli could have done more to avoid it. Jaiswal hit the ball to Pat Cummins at mid-on and took off for a run. Even though he called for it, Kohli was too focused on the ball and seemed uninterested in running. If Kohli had clearly said no, Jaiswal might have stopped, but instead, poor communication led to a costly wicket for India. This whole run-out incident sparked a lively debate between Pathan and Manjrekar, and things quickly heated up.

Check out this chat:

Manjrekar: "On the other side was Virat Kohli, and we often consider his perspective a bit more. It was a rookie mistake for Kohli to glance back and think there was no run. The decision should always come from the batter who faced the ball, not the non-striker. If Jaiswal had made a poor call, he would have been in trouble because Cummins would have targeted the non-striker's end. But since Kohli said no, Yashasvi had no chance to run. That's my take on it."

Pathan: "There's another aspect of cricket to consider: when the ball is played at point, it's actually the non-striker who should make the call. The striker can always choose to decline it."

Manjrekar: "But Irfan, you're referring to the point position here…"

After that, things got heated as neither Pathan nor Manjrekar was willing to hear or accept the other's argument.

Take a look at the video below:

Manjrekar wrapped things up by saying, "If you're not interested in listening, there's not much more to say," and then took a little jab at Pathan. "I think it's about time we get a new coaching manual that includes Irfan Pathan's take on running between the wickets."

No matter who's in the right, the bottom line is that India has squandered another opportunity. With five wickets down and 310 runs behind Australia, they’ve got a tough road ahead when Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja kick off Day 3 tomorrow.
