Inzamam-ul-Haq’s Grim Prediction: ‘Pakistan Cricket Will Continue to Fall Further’
1 day ago | 5 Views
Pakistan cricket has been facing a series of challenges, prompting former captain Inzamam-ul-Haq to urge the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to "learn from its mistakes" over the past two years and avoid repeating them. Recently, Pakistan hosted the 2025 Champions Trophy; however, reports suggest that the PCB suffered an 85 per cent financial loss after investing INR 869 crore, as the home team managed to play only one completed match during the tournament.
This development follows Pakistan's disappointing performance in the event. Inzamam expressed his concerns to reporters in Lahore, stating, "We are not progressing in the right direction and are making incorrect decisions in several areas," as reported by PTI.
In the wake of the Champions Trophy results, Pakistan has appointed Saud Shakeel as the new T20 captain. Shakeel becomes the fourth individual to assume this position since January 2024, following the tenures of Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, and Mohammad Rizwan, all of whom have held the role within just over a year.
‘Trust the management and the players’
Inzamam emphasized that, as a former captain and player, he understands that frequent changes can undermine player confidence. He stated, "Rather than implementing numerous changes, we should carefully analyze the areas where we are faltering. Continuous alterations prevent players from building the confidence they require, leading to a stagnant situation."
The former captain expressed his strong support for Babar Azam, whom he regards as an exceptional player. "Babar Azam is indeed a top-tier player. Every athlete experiences challenging phases, yet the national team has not performed well in recent months. It is essential to trust both the management and the players, collaborating to pinpoint the errors," he remarked.
Inzamam cautioned that without proper planning and execution, the team risks further decline. "I believe the cricket board must learn from past errors and avoid repeating the same mistakes made over the last two years. The performance of the Pakistan team has been deteriorating during this period. If we do not take the right steps, we will continue to descend further," Inzamam concluded.
