This innings represented his 46th ODI century and his 10th against Sri Lanka, setting a record for the most centuries by any player against a single opponent. For Sri Lanka, bowlers Kasun Rajitha and Lahiru Kumara each took two wickets, although they conceded runs at an economy rate exceeding eight.

Sri Lanka succumbs to the mounting pressure

Sri Lanka faced a daunting target of 391 runs, but their innings struggled from the very beginning. The Indian bowling unit, spearheaded by Mohammed Siraj, effectively dismantled the Sri Lankan batting order. Siraj achieved remarkable figures of four wickets for 32 runs, with significant contributions from Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav, who each claimed two wickets.

The Sri Lankan innings concluded at a meagre total of 73 runs in just 22 overs, with only three batsmen managing to score in double digits. The disparity between the two sides was striking, as India's bowlers adeptly capitalized on the conditions under the lights, providing the Sri Lankan batsmen with minimal opportunities to recover.

India's victory by 317 runs not only marked a significant achievement but also set a new record for the largest margin of victory in One Day Internationals, surpassing New Zealand's previous record of a 290-run win against Ireland. This triumph also ensured a comprehensive 3-0 series sweep for India.
