On Day 2 of the fourth Test against Australia at the MCG in Melbourne, the Indian players stepped onto the field wearing black armbands to honor former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who passed away at 92 on Thursday, December 26. Singh had been admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi after experiencing a sudden loss of consciousness at home, as reported by the hospital.

They stated that resuscitation efforts began right away at his residence, and he arrived at the Medical Emergency at 8:06 p.m. Unfortunately, despite all attempts to save him, he was pronounced dead at 9:51 p.m.

The hospital noted that Singh was undergoing treatment for age-related health issues.

Known for his calm demeanor, Singh served as one of India’s longest-serving Prime Ministers for a decade and was the leader of the Congress Party in the Rajya Sabha, gaining a reputation for his integrity. He was appointed to the position in 2004 by Sonia Gandhi, the widow of the assassinated Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

India begins Day 2 with a rough start

India got off to a rough start on Friday. They needed four wickets to finish off Australia's first innings, but aside from Jasprit Bumrah, the Indian pacers were all over the place in the first half hour, allowing easy runs to overnight batsmen Steve Smith and Pat Cummins. Their fielding errors didn’t help either. Fans were hoping for a stronger performance after India managed to take four late wickets on Thursday, leaving Australia at 311 for six on day one, thanks to a thrilling debut from teen Sam Konstas at the MCG.

As the heat cranked up in front of a massive Boxing Day crowd of 87,242, tensions flared when Virat Kohli was booed by the home fans after a shoulder bump with Konstas, who had been hitting India's bowlers all over the place early on.

Konstas didn’t let the incident bother him, going on to score 60 off 65 balls, while Australia’s top order backed captain Pat Cummins's choice to bat after winning the toss.
