Kohli c Blundell b Phillips 70 (102)
Also STUMPS!

IND: 228/2 (46), trail by 128 runs
India vs New Zealand Live: A flat delivery by Phillips, Sarfaraz guides it to third man for a single. Then a flighted delivery, outside off, Kohli gets a third outside edge, past slip for a four! Then he smacks another four to deep extra cover! Then two dots and a single.
IND: 214/2 (43), trail by 142 runs

IND: 197/2 (40), trail by 159 runs
India vs New Zealand Live: Kohli also gets his fifty! A short delivery by Henry and Kohli guides it to cover point for a single and gets his 31st Test fifty!
India vs New Zealand Live: Henry leaks only three runs but Sarfaraz manages to get a single in the final ball to get his fourth Test fifty! WHAT A KNOCK! IMPORTANT!
IND: 182/2 (36), trail by 174 runs
India vs New Zealand Live: Tight over for Henry! Leaks only two runs, with Kohli (42*) and Sarfaraz (43*) building a partnership for India.
IND: 174/2 (34), trail by 182 runs
India vs New Zealand Live: A full toss by Ajaz, on middle. Sarfaraz slams it over the deep midwicket for a six. Then he hammers him over deep midwicket for another six again. Then it is a dot!
IND: 167/2 (32), trail by 189 runs
India vs New Zealand Live: A full delivery by Southee, and on the pads. Sarfaraz flicks it to the gap between square leg and the fielder in the deep at long leg for a four!
IND: 138/2 (29), trail by 218 runs
India vs New Zealand Live: A short of length delivery by O'Rourke, outside off. Sarfaraz cuts it over deep backward point for a six! Then it is a dot, followed by a four over slips!
India vs New Zealand Live: A full delivery by Ajaz, on off. Sarfaraz sweeps it to the deep square leg for a four! Then he sweeps again, over square leg for another four!
India vs New Zealand Live: A length delivery by Ajaz, on off. Rohit waits and defends it off the inner half, but it nicks his defense and hits the stumps! He is shocked and so is Kohli at the non-striker's end!
Rohit b Ajaz 52 (63)
IND: 95/2 (21.), trail by 261 runs
India vs New Zealand Live: How about that! Rohit meets the third ball from Henry with a wonderful drive. Then Henry goes short, this time Rohit brings out his signature pull, doesn't bother keeping it down and sends it into the stands for a six. Then he keeps down the pull next ball for a four and that takes him to his half-century. No runs off the last ball, Rohit on 52 off 60, Kohli on 1 off 15.
India 90/1 in 21 overs, trail by 266 runs
India vs New Zealand Live: Big cheers around the ground. He had to see out another maiden from Patel and got off the mark with the 15th ball that he faced at last. The Bengaluru faithful cheer as their longtime RCB captain gets off the pair.
India 76/1 in 20.2 overs
India vs New Zealand Live: He doesn't have a good record in that position but India stick to keeping Kohli at three, possibly more forced to do it now considering Pant's injury. Kohli is on a pair. As expected, huge cheers around the ground that has become his adopted home due to the years he spent with RCB. Kohli sees off that over from Patel and so doesn't get off the mark.
India 72/1 in 18 overs, trail by 284
India vs New Zealand Live: Oh Jaiswal would not want to see that. An ugly heave after advancing down the track and he is stumped. Ajaz bowls a length delivery but that doesn't batter, Jaiswal decides that he is going to smash this ball into smithereens. Absolutely jumps down the track and heaves so hard that he almost loses his bat, misses the ball completely and Blundell completes the job. Where in the world did that come from. Jaiswal better not look at his non-striker as he walks off, captain Rohit must be seething.
Jaiswal st Blundell b Ajaz 35 (52)
India 72/1 in 17.1 overs, trail by 284 runs
India vs New Zealand Live: Well Jaiswal would've got back to back fours to end that over had it not been for the incredible Glenn Phillips. Rohit takes a single off the fourth ball as it goes off a thick inside edge. Ajaz overpitches fifth ball, Jaiswal sends it past cover for a four. Then he sweeps hard from well outside off last ball, Phillips runs, flies, thuds onto the ground and stops the ball from reaching the boundary. The batters run two, Jaiswal on 35 off 51, Rohit on 28 off 46.
India 64/0 in 16 overs
India vs New Zealand Live: Rohit Sharma takes guard, having taken a single off the last ball of that session by Phillips. New Zealand continuing with spin with Ajaz Patel set to bowl the first over of the third session. It is overcast.
India 57/0 in 15 overs, trail by 299 runs
India vs New Zealand Live: Jurel filled in for Pant with the gloves but he can't do the same in the batting lineup since he is not a concussion sub. However, encouraging signs for India as Pant is out there during the Tea break taking some throwdowns. He doesn't have any protection on his left knee, which would be his back knee when batting, which is another positive sign.
India vs New Zealand Live: Rachin Ravindra's masterclass helped New Zealand take a lead of 356 runs, which is the highest any away team has managed to take in India since Sri Lanka got 334 in Ahmedabad in 2009. It is tied with the West Indies got at the Brabourne Stadium all the way back in 1948 as the third highest lead any team has ever taken in a Test match in India.
India vs New Zealand Live: Not losing any wickets in this session would have been the target for India, Jaiswal and Rohit have achieved that and more. This is India in a Test match at their home and so even now, you can't really say that they are completely out of it. The openers have made a good start to the mountain hike that India have to do here. Rohit and Jaiswal were out in the field for a lot of punishing hours, they managed to regain their focus and then get some boundaries under their belt. Rohit is on 29 off 49, Jaiswal on 27 off 42.
India 57/0, trail by 299 runs
India vs New Zealand Live: Whisper it quietly but Rohit and Jaiswal are looking as solid as ever in this innings. Rohit did say that the first innings score is something that he didn't like to see as a captain. Surely, he was bruised as a batter as well, as would be Jaiswal and every other batter in this Indian team. Great players tend to want to hit back with a vengeance when things like these happen and in Test cricket, that would mean being patient and collecting your runs calmly. That is what Rohit and Jaiswal have done thus far in this innings, any uncertainty has been because of the brilliance of the NZ bowlers or uneven bounce, not loose attacking shots. There is still a long way to go though - Rohit and Jaiswal may need to tap into some of that 'khadoos' juice that Mumbai batters like them tend to be associated with. Jaiswal is on 27 off 45, Rohit is on 23 off 43.
India 51/0 in 13 overs, trail by 305 runs
India vs New Zealand Live: What a difference a day makes. Jaiswal smashes the fourth ball of the 12th over from Patel through cover for a four and that takes India's score to 46! A single off the last ball and India manage to go past their first innings score. The numbers are the same but everything around them couldn't be more different. Jaiswal is on 23 off 39, Rohit on 23 off 34.
India 47/0 in 12 overs
India vs New Zealand Live: O'Rourke is building up some good pace, which would be intimidating with his height but Jaiswal is using it. First ball is at 143kph and Jaiswal leaves it. The second stays down despite being short on middle and leg, Jaiswal fends it away. The third is overpitched outside off, Jaiswal belts it through extra-cover for a four. The last ball is short and wide outside off, Jaiswal crrrrrrrrashes it past point for a four. He is on 18 off 36, Rohit on 22 off 31.
India 41/0 in 11 overs
India vs New Zealand Live: Ajaz Patel bowls the first over spin for New Zealand in this Test match in the 10th over of the second Indian innings. He goes too full last ball and Rohit sends it through midwicket for a four. He is on 22 off 31, Jaiswal on 10 off 30.
India 33/0 in 10 overs, trail by 323 runs
India vs New Zealand Live: Don't bowl short to Rohit Sharma, is something of a thumb rule for most fast bowlers when they play India. Not for Will O'Rourke, the awkward bounce he is generating has the Indian captain ducking and weaving and hopping. The inconsistent bounce is something that the Indians weren't able to take advantage of for much of the day, but the Kiwis are using it to te full. Rohit on 17 off 23, Jaiswal is on 10 off 26.
India 28/0 in 8 overs, trail by 328 runs
India vs New Zealand Live: Henry gets the inside edge of Rohit's bat first ball and it doesn't hit the stumps. Henry goes too full third ball, looking for swing, it goes nicely to Rohit's pads who flicks it away for four. Then he beats Rohit with the fourth ball, full again for the fifth and Rohit swings it away to the boundary. He is on 10 off 11, Jaiswal on two off 13.
India 12/0 in 4 overs
India vs New Zealand Live: Jaiswal and Rohit looking to get a foothold. Remember, the conditions are very good for batting at the moment and so things can very interesting indeed if India can stay at the crease for the rest of the day without losing too many wickets. Rohit and Jaiswal both on two runs.
India 4/0 after 2 overs
India vs New Zealand Live: An entire generation of Indian players and fans have grown up without ever facing a situation such as this. India walk out in their second innings having to score at least 356 runs to avoid an innings defeat. Not even in the last series that they lost at home did they suffer an innings defeat. Yashasvi Jaiswal facing up to Tim Southee, Rohit Sharma at the other end.
India vs New Zealand Live: His partner Will O'Rourke has sprinted to the dressing room to get his bowling hat on but Ravindra takes his time to walk off, and why not. Big cheers immediately after Jurel takes the catch and then the crowd rises in ovation for Ravindra, the local boy in a way. A number of Indian players, including Bumrah and Siraj on whom he piled so much misery, walk up to him and shake his hands. What a player the 24-year-old is turning out to be in all formats. Extra special for him that he has made the Chinnaswamy his own considering he is so proud of his roots in Bengaluru. One gets the feeling that most in the crowd present today would be grudgingly happy for him as well, despite what he has done to their beloved Indian team.
India vs New Zealand Live: Rachin Ravindra hits possibly the biggest six of this innings by smashing the second ball of the 92nd by Kuldeep over midwicket. Goes for another big one but the ball only ends up ballooning up in the air, Dhruv Jurel takes a straightforward catch.
Ravindra c sub (Jurel) b Kuldeep Yadav 134 (157)
India vs New Zealand Live: More frustration for India, Ravindra has played the situation perfectly in the 91st over. Manages to send Siraj to deep midwicket to take two runs off the third ball. Then hits the fourth ball to mid-on for four, then he uses the field coming in and sends the fifth ball over point for a four. Ravindra then top edges a pull and can get a single.
New Zealand 395/9 in 91 overs, lead by 349
India vs New Zealand Live: This has been an eventful over to say the least. Ravindra goes for a big haymaker first ball, misses it and it hits the pad. Just a muted appeal for LBW which the umpire turns down and India don't review it. Replays later show that they would have got the centurion out had they done so. Ravindra then nails the heave second ball and it flies into the stands for a six. Single next ball and then an LBW appeal against Ajaz, turned down. Another appeal next ball and and this time the umpire gives it. Ajaz reviews, there were two sounds but it is pads first. Impact is umpire's call, wickets hitting. New Zealand down to their last wicket.
India vs New Zealand Live: Two left-handers in the crease, a hard new ball and yet the first over of spin is to be bowled by Kuldeep, not Ashwin. Just shows that India's premier spinner has had a horrendous Test. Ajaz annoys Siraj by unfurling a beautiful cover drive fifth ball to send it to the boundary. Siraj responds by going full and it beats the batter last ball. Beats the batter, does not dismiss him. That is just how unlucky he has been in this spell.
New Zealand 376/8 in 89 overs, lead by 330 runs
India vs New Zealand Live: That's a strange one. Big appeal for caught behind as Ravindra takes a waft at the first ball of the 89th from Siraj. Jurel takes the catch and starts celebrating, so do the Indians and Michael Gough, who has got nothing wrong in this Test really, raises his finger. Ravindra consults with Ajaz and then goes upstairs. There is the slighest of flickers on ultraedge as ball passes bat. But the the third umpire says he can also see daylight between bat and ball and so asks Gough to reverse his decision. Always strange when batters are not sure if they nicked a ball or not, especially when they are looking to review a decision that has gone against them. Further replays show that Virat Kohli at first slip was not celebrating at all. He knew.
India vs New Zealand Live: How well has Bumrah bowled today. Well, it is better than his figures of 1/41 suggest. He beats Ravindra's drive first ball of the 88th over. Then beats him again with a slower ball second ball. Third ball is punched to mid on after which Ravindra gets off strike. Bumrah then serves Ajaz Patel with a yorker, it is toe-ended to the wicketkeeper. Then Patel nails a push to mid-off. Ravindra on 109 off 141, Patel on none off four.
New Zealand 371/8 in 88 overs, lead by 325 runs
India vs New Zealand Live: Southee took his Test sixes tally to 93 off the third ball of the 87th from Siraj, slogging it over midwicket. Then a rather unsure lofted shot next ball which is a slow delivery and that does it. Muted celebrations from Siraj and India, they know this innings from Southee has hurt them, possibly beyond repair.
Southee c Jadeja b Mohammed Siraj 65 (73)
New Zealand 370/8, lead by 324
India vs New Zealand Live: Southee had a hard time facing Siraj in the last over and so, he decides to hit back. Ravindra gets off strike second ball after being beaten on the outside edge with his first. Southee then dances down the track to Siraj third ball and slogs it over midwicket for a four. Then he stays in the crease, flicks the length ball on the pads for another four. He takes a single off the last ball. There is no bother about farming strike now, Southee as comfortable facing deliveries as Ravindra. He is on 59 off 63, Ravindra on 107 off 136.
New Zealand 362/7, lead by 316.
India vs New Zealand Live: He takes a single off the first ball of the 84th over from Bumrah and that takes him to his half-century in 57 balls. Southee is beaten by the fifth ball of that over. He is on 50 off 59 at the end of it, Ravindra on 106 off 134 balls.
New Zealand 352/7 in 84 overs
India vs New Zealand Live: And still Southee survives. Southee hits the first ball to cover. He then swings at the second and is beaten on the outside edge, the third ball leaves him late and whistles past his edge again. The fourth swings away from him again and even wobbles on Jurel and surprises him, it goes behind for four byes. Southee pushes at the fourth that also swings away and the last is fuller and closer to off stump, beats the batter again. Siraj looked more likely to get a wicket in these first two overs with the new ball than Bumrah.
New Zealand 349/7 in 83 overs
India vs New Zealand Live: And doesn't really succeed in doing so. He strayed down the leg side from around the wicket first two balls. Ravindra tried to get something on the second one and failed. Bumrah gets the third to shape away, Ravindra leaves it alone. Bumrah goes down leg side next two deliveries as well and then gets his line right last ball, Ravindra defends it down.
India vs New Zealand Live: India have a proper mountain to climb here but they can still try and stop New Zealand from making this close to impossible for them. Rachin Ravindra, on an imperious 104 off 125 balls, on strike, Tim Southee at the other end on 49 off 50. Jasprit Bumrah with the shiny new cherry in his hands.
New Zealand 345/7, lead by 299
India vs New Zealand Live: He stayed put and weathered the storm while his teammates fell around him and when the time came, he switched gears quite spectacularly. Ravindra scored a century against Pakistan at this ground in the 2023 World Cup last year and that was his first ODI at the Chinnaswamy. Now he has scored a century in his first Test match here. Clearly, he feels at home in Bengaluru.
India vs New Zealand Live: Southee punched the second ball of that over from Siraj to extra cover, where captain Rohit collects the ball and fires it at the stumps at the striker's end. It misses the target and rolls away to the boundary for four overthrows. Then Siraj bowls a benign, hip-high short ball fourth ball, Southee sends it over square leg for the six that helped him equal Sehwag's Test tally. That took him to 49 in 50 balls at the end of that over with Ravindra on 104 off 125 at the other end.
India vs New Zealand Live: Well, it is pretty safe to say that India lost the plot to a certain extent towards the end of that session. Some of them go and shake hands with Rachin Ravindra who deserves all kinds of praise. What an extraordinary innings this has been from a player who seems to be able to do no wrong at the moment in international cricket. New Zealand smashed as many as 58 runs in the last four overs of that session. The Chinnaswamy is known as a good batting ground in T20 cricket, well New Zealand gave a glimpse of that in the second half of that session
India vs New Zealand Live: And moreover, they are taking their own sweet time with bowling the 81st. It is Mohammed Siraj who is going to bowl it. Now India are the bowling side, they should be in a hurry to get as many overs as possible in this session. Not only do they not take the new ball, they seem to have almost given up on this session.
India vs New Zealand Live: The partnership between Southee and Ravindra has gone to 102 now in just 91 balls! Southee has equalled Virender Sehwag's tally of career sixes in Test cricket. Ravindra takes a single after scoring his century. Ashwin then goes short and wide to Southee for some reason, the veteran Kiwi makes room for himself and slaps it to the boundary for a four. The next ball is sent sailing back over the bowler's head for a six after which Southee sweeps the fifth ball for a four. A single next ball, he has raced to 39 in 44, Ravindra at the other end on 104 off 125.
New Zealand 335/7 in 80 overs, lead by 28
India vs New Zealand Live: He sends the first ball from Ashwin to fine leg for a four and raises 'em. The Chinnaswamy crowd gives him a rousing ovation, that is some innings from Rachin Ravindra. It was a leg stump ball from Ashwin first ball of the 80th, Ravindra just sweeps it with ease. The Indian bowlers have completely lost their line and length here and it is largely because Ravindra and Southee have smashed them everywhere. Ravindra takes off his helmet, raises both hands and gets a big hug from Southee.
New Zealand 319/7
India vs New Zealand Live: Rachin Ravindra one run away from scoring a century in his first Test in his native town. He sweeps the fourth ball of the 79th from Jadeja for a six; the next ball is smashed off the square for a four. A single next ball takes him to 99 in 123.
New Zealand 315/7 in 79 overs, lead by 273 runs
India vs New Zealand Live: Two more sixes and Tim Southee will cross Virender Sehwag's career tally of sixes. Before that, Ashwin lost his length fourth ball and Ravindra goes to the backfoot, sends the ball past midwicket. Southee then hits the last ball of the over down the ground for the six. He is on 23 off 39, Ravindra on 87 off 118.
New Zealand 302/7 in 78 overs
India vs New Zealand Live: And they have got there in just 67 balls. Ravindra is on 77 off 112 balls, Southee on 15 off 33. India being absolutely frustrated now by this partnership. What would be worse for them is that there have hardly been any kind of chances that have come the hosts' way.
New Zealand 283/7 in 76 overs
India vs New Zealand Live Score 1st Test Day 3: Jadeja's fourth delivery is not that short outside off, not full either, Ravindra sends it past cover for a four. Then next ball is tossed up slower and fuller on off, Ravndra sends it past cover again for another four. A couple of gorgeous shots from the Kiwi youngster from Bengaluru, he is on 76 off 108, Southee on 13 off 31.
New Zealand 280/7
India vs New Zealand Live Score 1st Test Day 3: Ravindra whipped Ashwin through the midwicket region third ball, then he uses his wrists again fourth ball but this time to send a full toss over wide long-on for a six. ravindra ends that over on 66 off 95 balls, Southee on 12 off 26.
New Zealand 269/7, lead by 223
India vs New Zealand Live Score 1st Test Day 3: ...and Rohit finally brings Ashwin into the attack. He will bowl the 72nd over. Southee survives five balls of the 71st over from Jadeja, without much troubles. The batters even ran two off the fourth ball.
New Zealand 260/7 in 71 overs
India vs New Zealand Live Score 1st Test Day 3: That is just a gorgeous shot from Ravindra and he gets to his half-century in his first Test in his native city. Steps out to Kuldeep second ball of the 70th over and sends the ball careening down the ground to the boundary. He reaches his half-century in 88 balls. With that, their lead goes past 200 as well.
New Zealand 247/7 in 69/2 overs, lead by 201
India vs New Zealand Live Score 1st Test Day 3: Former captain Tim Southee is out there. Now he would be among the more surprising names in the topmost regions of the most prolific six-hitters in the history of Test cricket but he would know that his main job is to hold up an end while Rachin Ravindra gets as many as runs as possible at the other. Thus far, he has faced 16 balls for four runs, surviving five deliveries against Kuldeep in the 68th over with Ravindra taking a single off the first. 16 of the 19 deliveries that these two have faced have been taken by Southeee which may not exactly be very good farming of strike from Ravindra.
New Zealand 240/7, led by 194 runs
India vs New Zealand Live Score 1st Test Day 3: Henry gone trying one too many shots. He is an aggressive batter but then a No.8 might be better served assisting a well-set Rachin Ravindra at the other end, rather than trying to take over the scoring.
Henry b Jadeja 8 (9)
New Zealand 233/7, lead by 187
India vs New Zealand Live Score 1st Test Day 3: Knocks him over! A good start indeed for India. Phillips has been looking uncertain all morning and he ends up in a proper knot here. Stays back to a full delivery, leans forward and tries to defend, ends up in the worst of shapes for any batter. The ball doesn't bother touching any part of his body or bat, hits the top of middle stump.
Phillips b Jadeja 14 (18)
New Zealand 223/6 in 62.3 overs
India vs New Zealand Live Score 1st Test Day 3: Kuldeep replaces Bumrah at the other end, a big appeal for LBW against Ravindra second ball which the umpire turns down. Rohit takes the review and the umpire's call is held up. Ravindra takes a single next ball, Phillips ends that over by clubbing the ball back over the bowler's head for a six. He is on 14 off 17, Ravindra on 39 off 17.
New Zealand 222/5 in 62 overs
India vs New Zealand Live Score 1st Test Day 3: First change of the day. An excellent spell from Siraj comes to an end. Ravindra Jadeja replaces him. There is a chance that Kuldeep or Ashwin might be given one more over from the other end. Phillips to face up, he is on eight off as many, Ravindra on 38 off 68.
Inda 215/5 in 60 overs
India vs New Zealand Live Score 1st Test Day 3: Well the crowd at the Chinnaswamy can be heard chanting "RCB! RCB!" arguably among the more iconic chants to have emerged from the IPL. But then they seem to be answered by a small minority chanting for CSK. All this while RCB's Siraj is bowling to CSK's Ravindra.
Ravindra's new partner Glenn Phillips is living dangerously though, as he does most of the time. He has been swinging quite freely, been beaten by Bumrah off the very first ball he faced and the fourth ball of the 59th from Siraj. Ravindra is on 38 off 66, Phillps on three off four.
New Zealand 209/5 in 59 overs
India vs New Zealand Live Score 1st Test Day 3: Jasprit Bumrah has been lining up Tom Blundell for a while and he gets him at last. Sends the fourth ball of the 58th on good length, it holds its line and draws the edge from Blundell's defensive shot. It goes straight into Rahul at second slip.
Blundell c Rahul b Bumrah 5 (8)
New Zealand 204/5, lead by 158 runs
India vs New Zealand Live Score 1st Test Day 3: Rachin Ravindra looking very good indeed but Jasprit Bumrah has been brilliant today as well. Quite unlucky to not get a wicket but he seems to have his eyes trained on new man Tom Blundell. Ravindra is on 32 off 62, Blundell on five off four.
New Zealand 204/4 in 57 overs, lead by 158 runs
India vs New Zealand Live Score 1st Test Day 3: There is the early wicket!
India vs New Zealand Live Score 1st Test Day 3: Bumrah with an absolute corker fourth ball of the 54th. Good length delivery, the angle forces Ravindra to play, but then it seams away out of nowhere and just about beats his outside edge. Millimetres away from a wicket. Ravindra is on 30 off 54, Mitchell on 14 off 43.
New Zealand 189/3 in 54 overs
India vs New Zealand Live Score 1st Test Day 3: It wasn't exactly a great delivery from Siraj first up, full and on the pads. But Ravindra, what timing, he plays that flick shot as perfectly as a batter can, sends it between mid-on and midwicket for four. The sweetest of connections. A leg bye off the fifth ball, Ravindra on 26 off 39, Mitchellm on 14 off 40. Bumrah will steam in from the other end. One wonders if it should've been a spinner bowling one of the first two overs of the day, instead of both being bowled by pacers.
New Zealand 185/3 in 51 overs
India vs New Zealand Live Score 1st Test Day 3: Right, it is Day 3 and they tend to be called the "moving day" in a Test match. The team that stays on top at the end of the day today are most likely to win this match for sure. Rachin Ravindra takes strike on 22 off 34, Daryl Mitchell at the other end on 14 off 39. Mohammed Siraj to bowl the first over of the day, 51st over of the innings.
New Zealand 180/3, lead by 135 runs
India vs New Zealand Live Score 1st Test Day 3: Murali Kartik and Simon Doull say that India are in for a hard grind today. The conditions have eased off and it is very good for batting now. The only friend the bowlers could have is the uneven bounce because of some cracks that are beginning to develop.
India vs New Zealand Live Score 1st Test Day 3: It looks like Dhruv Jurel will take the gloves today as well. We just saw the Indian team huddle and Rishabh Pant was not in it.
India vs New Zealand Live Score 1st Test Day 3: It remains to be seen whether Pant will take the field today or not. Pant missed a stumping against Devon Conway off the bowling of Ravindra Jadeja in the 37th over of the New Zealand innings. The ball ended up hitting his knee after evading the pads when he failed to collect it.
"Unfortunately, the ball hit straight on his knee cap, the same leg on which he has got a surgery done. So he has got a bit of swelling on it," Rohit said after play in Bengaluru. "And you know the muscles are quite tender at this point in time, so it's a precautionary measure. We don't want to take a risk. Rishabh doesn't want to take a risk because he has gone through a massive surgery on that particular leg. That was the reason for him to go inside. Hopefully, at night he can recover and we will see him back on the field tomorrow."
India vs New Zealand Live Score 1st Test Day 3: The weather has played a huge role in this Test to say the least. It washed out the first day and the ball was swinging like a boomerang for New Zealand under heavy cloud cover and coolish conditions on the morning of Day 2. Today, it is bright and sunny in Bengaluru! While there was a slight rain delay yesterday and Stumps were called due to bad light, we could have a full day's play today with absolutely no interruptions.
India vs New Zealand Live Score 1st Test Day 3: While Rohit Sharma's decision to bat first is now being seen as a blunder, it has to be remembered that Tom Latham also said that they wanted to bat first. New Zealand also went in with three pacers but that is because two of their top batters, Rachin Ravindra and Glenn Phillips, are also two of their top spinners. This meant that they effectively had three pacers and three spinners in their ranks by default. All in all, both sides misjudged the conditions, both sides picked the wrong teams, but New Zealand got lucky.
India vs New Zealand Live Score 1st Test Day 3: We were raving about India's incredible aggression with the bat in a Test against Bangladesh not too long ago. India scored at over 8 runs an over throughout that innings that lasted just over 33 overs and broke the record for the fastest team 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 in the history of Test cricket. The other side of it, though, is that there would be days when this attacking strokeplay would blow up in their face spectacularly and fans got a glimpse of that in the very next Test match. Indiad had declared on 285/9 against Bangladesh in just 34.4 overs then. In their next Test, which is this one, they were all out for 46 in 31.2 overs.
India vs New Zealand Live Score 1st Test Day 3: Not only was this India's lowest score at home, this is also the least runs any team has scored in a Test innings in Asia. The previous lowest in Asia was 53 all out by West Indies against Pakistan in Faisalabad in 1986 and Pakistan against Australia in Sharjah in 2002.
India vs New Zealand Live Score 1st Test Day 3: By now, you must have heard that India were dismissed for their lowest-ever Test score at home in the first innings. Overall, this is their third-lowest score in a Test innings. The lowest, of course, is the infamous 36-all out in Adelaide in December 2020 against Australia after which comes 42-all out against England at Lord's in June 1974.
This is India's lowest score at home by some margin. The previous record was 75 against the might of the West Indies in Delhi in November 1987. That record was almost broken in 2008, when the fiery Dale Steyn led the way with a five-wicket haul as South Africa dismissed India for 76 runs in Ahmedabad. India's current bowling coach Morne Morkel had dismissed MS Dhoni and captain Anil Kumble in that innings. India went on to lose that match by an innings and 90 runs with Jacques Kallis scoring a century and AB de Villiers staying unbeaten on 217.
India vs New Zealand Live Score 1st Test Day 3: Henry spoke to the host broadcasters at the end of the first day. Here is what he said:
"Was a great way to start the day. The way we’ve continued as well has been really pleasing. We were hopeful. There was a lot of grass taken off, we tried to apply pressure for as long as we could. The key is just worrying about what you can control. For me it was about working on my game and taking the opportunities that I got. (How experience playing here for LSG helped) Yeah it did, everytime you come back here (India) it’s a great place to play. All those experiences help. Was great to get out there today. The game being affected by rain, it’s important to have a day like this. It’s usually really difficult here and it’s about carrying on in the same way."
India vs New Zealand Live Score 1st Test Day 3: Most Indian fans would remember Matt Henry from what he did to India in the 2019 World Cup final. India had lost their top three, which included Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli at the peak of their powers, in the first three overs of that match. Two of those were taken by Henry. Yesterday, Henry finished with figures of 5/15 in 13.2 overs. In addition to that, he also took an incredible running catch to send back Jasprit Bumrah off O'Rourke.
India vs New Zealand Live Score 1st Test Day 3: Rohit Sharma walked into the press room and said, "Chalao Talwar (Draw your swords)" before sitting down. He rarely ever looked impatient or angry when answering questions, which is what one might usually expect from a captain when they face the press after a day like that. As stated earlier, it is unusual for the captain to walk out for a press conference after effectively the first day's play, or even the second day for that matter.
India vs New Zealand Live Score 1st Test Day 3: As stated earlier, Rohit admitted that he made a mistake with judging the pitch. This is exactly what he said:
"You see and you try and make the judgement. Sometimes you make the right call, sometimes you don't, and I was on the other side of it this time around. I'm hurting a little bit because I made that call. But see, for us as a team, I think these are the challenges.
"So, what if we put ourselves under pressure a little bit? We want to play well. We want to challenge ourselves. This time around, it didn't come off, the challenges that were thrown at us. We didn't respond well, and we found ourselves in a situation where we got bowled out for 46 runs. As a captain, it definitely hurts to see that number, but in 365 days you'll make two or three bad calls. That's okay."
India vs New Zealand Live Score 1st Test Day 3: He is one of the all-time greats for India at No.4 but Virat Kohli has veered away from that position twice in the last three innings. He batted at No.5 in that rapid dash of a first innings in India's second Test against Bangladesh and here, he came in at No.3. The only problem was that Kohli had scored only 97 runs at an average of 19.40 batting in that position in the past and those numbers took a further hit as he fell for a 12-ball duck.
Rohit said that Kohli agreed to move so as to not force Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul off the No.5 and No.6 positions while also making sure Sarfaraz Khan doesn't have to walk in at No.3. "The experienced players are the ones who have to take that extra responsibility and this time it was Virat. He was the one who was ready to do that [bat at No. 3]," Rohit said. "We asked him whether he can manage No. 3 because Sarfaraz [Khan] ... we wanted to give Sarfaraz also the position that he usually bats [at] four and five, six maybe. But we didn't want to change Rishabh and KL [Rahul] and hence Sarfaraz went at four and Virat batted at three. It's a good sign actually, we have players coming up and taking that responsibility and owning up to the challenge. It is a good sign. After a long time, KL has found himself set at number six, so we want to keep ... make him bat there."
India vs New Zealand Live Score 1st Test Day 3: It is quite unusual for the captain to address a press conference after what was effectively the first day of a Test match but that is what happened for India yesterday. Rohit Sharma walked out and effectively admitted that he made a mistake in judging how the pitch would behave. If only we could see leaders in all fields making admissions like these...
India vs New Zealand Live Score 1st Test Day 3: There was uneven bounce to be exploited in the first session of Day 2 and Will O'Rourke did that and more with his height. The fast bowler stunned the South Africans in his debut Test at Seddon Park, taking five wickets in the first innings and four in the second. He has now stunned the Indians by taking four wickets. The first of those was of talisman Virat Kohli, the second was of the set batter Yashasvi Jaiswal and the third was of the potentially dangerous KL Rahul at his home ground and the fourth was Jasprit Bumrah as part of the cleanup of the Indian tail. Kohli and Rahul were both out for ducks.
India vs New Zealand Live Score 1st Test Day 3: The oddities around India's stunning collapse yesterday is just as numerous as the ducks in the innings. For once, it comes at a time when India have arguably looked the strongest they have in home Test matches. Secondly, New Zealand bowled only pacers throughout the 31.2 overs that India lasted, despite this being a Test match in India. And thirdly, as stated earlier, why in the world India chose to bat first if the conditions were such that the ball was swinging through hoops is a question that even Rohit Sharma struggled with as he admirably faced the press after the end of the day's play.
One final point to remember is that despite India being all out for just 46 runs, they put New Zealand under all kinds of pressure at the end of the day. So comprehensive is their dominance at home that even after this, a win for India remains a very likely outcome of this Test. That fact is an oddity by itself.
India vs New Zealand Live Score 1st Test Day 3: New Zealand have decided to stick to three seamers as they alread have three spinners in Ajaz Patel and all-rounders Rachin Ravindra and Glenn Phillips. They didn't the services of those spinners at all, with Matt Henry and Will O'Rourke taking nine wickets between them and Tim Southee taking the 10th, which was the first of the day.
New Zealand XI: Tom Latham(c), Devon Conway, Will Young, Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Blundell(w), Glenn Phillips, Matt Henry, Tim Southee, Ajaz Patel, William O'Rourke
India vs New Zealand Live Score 1st Test Day 3: There will be debates on whether India made a mistake by selecting just two seamers, considering New Zealand didn't bowl a single over of spin yesterday. But then it was Kuldeep Yadav, the third spinner, who ended the dangerous-looking opening stand between Tom Latham and Devon Conway. No Shubman Gill because of an injury and Sarfaraz Khan is taking his place, although Virat Kohli is the one who batted at No.3.
India XI: Rohit Sharma(c), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant(w), Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj
India vs New Zealand Live Score 1st Test Day 3: Hello and welcome everyone to our live coverage of Day 3 of the ongoing first Test between India and New Zealand. New Zealand lead by 134 runs after they bundled India out for just 46 runs in the first innings. Stay tuned for updates!
